  1. Thank you @glowlight. She’s quite a bit brighter this morning so 🤞 will be well enough to enjoy tomorrow. This is what you get for getting stressed enough to phone a doctor… 🤨 I just wanted to say she’s very touched by your good wishes so thank you all for that.🙂
  2. That does present a funny image! Mine could stay in that position for the whole hour normally I think, she waddles around in that position just because she can. This is all so helpful - judging by some of what you see on instagram (I know...) the standard of dancing some of them have by year 6 is so high. Mine is a decent standard and technically reasonably neat, but nothing like that. And yes, I've been lurking long enough to tell that about the type and to suspect she may not tick all the boxes. But that's ok. We have already accepted something very fun for the autumn so this one is really just 'you never know if you don't try' and a nice anecdote for when she's older. But as I say, having got this far we would like her to do it (so long as she wants to on Monday) and to enjoy the experience. Fingers crossed for an overnight miracle! x
  3. Thank you so much for all your helpful advice! @akh that must have been so stressful!! She's looking a bit better but not lots. The pharmacist was helpful but there's nothing over the counter they can give to little ones; however she advised me to call the out of hours GP. Nothing available tonight so that will be me at 8am tomorrow. Thankfully the pharmacist was someone I knew which made me feel a bit more comfortable looking like a madly pushy parent and actually she was really sympathetic. I will also email the school; as you say @glowlightthey'll need to know on the day as it is. And then, at least we tried. I don't think they do pirouettes etc at this age but I'm not sure I fancy her chances at pony gallops turning across the floor... or at least her chances of doing them without looking like she's been on the sauce. We're not expecting a yes but if she can walk out with her confidence and dignity intact then that will be a good result!
  4. Thanks! We tried a different antihistamine that didn't seem to work earlier in the week but it might be worth trying again now she's (I hope!) a bit more on the up.
  5. I am a regular lurker here and have really benefitted from advice offered to others so hoping someone will be able to help me now! My daughter has her RBS JA audition on Monday (for Y6 if it makes a difference although she's a young'un in the year so not ten for ages). We know it's a long shot etc, which is fine. She's been ill with a virus all week and is still both light headed and dizzy. I currently don't know if she'll be well enough to go to the audition but if she's still wobbly but wants to go, does anyone have any tips for something that will help her get through an hour with as much steadiness as possible?! I was planning on nurofen and a flapjack or chocolate bar just before but if anyone has any other suggestions they will be gratefully received! We can't swap to a different date even if that is theoretically possible because of other non-negotiable commitments. I think it's too late to try to get a doctor's note really, even if that would make a difference, and to be honest given the odds I'd rather not over-egg it anyway. There are other opportunities coming up etc etc. But if we're going to go I'd like her to feel as confident as possible. Thanks in advance!
  6. Do you mind saying whereabouts you are in Surrey @Chonavb? Closer to London or further out?
  7. My daughter loved the Dance around the World day at Central which they run in half term. Planning to do it again. Four hours of dancing: always one class of ballet and then three other styles which vary each time. Last time was morris dancing, flamenco and Bollywood. Ages 8-16 divided into reasonable age groups.
  8. Thanks and hello! Long time lurker here… 😁
  9. If you’re close enough for Guildford to work then you might also want to look at Surrey Youth Ballet associates? It runs in Walton on Thames Jan-Sept so you’ve not missed it for this coming year. It’s a bit more local/accessible but my daughter (a junior who isn’t aiming at vocational ballet but possibly could) loves it and there are some kids who do go on to vocational training who’ve been through it. They do monthly Sunday classes, an hour ballet and an hour of a second discipline that varies. They also have a performance company but that’s over the autumn so kicking off soon. I’m also a newbie to all this but it’s been a friendly place to start. My daughter has her regular lessons elsewhere although some do come from the directors dance school.
  10. Thanks everyone! That’s really helpful and reassuring. Ballet insta is a bit terrifying sometimes.
  11. Thank you! That was my instinct too but it’s hard not to be swayed when there’s talk of ‘coaching’ during the photo sessions. She’d be going in for the experience mainly (although obviously not a completely implausible candidate) and would rather not over-egg the pudding… Also it says 8-10 but I assume that means 8-10 at the end of the school year. She’s a late summer birthday so would be 10 at this point in year 6 but I assume that’s too late for JAs.
  12. My daughter might audition next year - does everyone pay for professional photos?! On instagram (I know…) everyone seems to have done this but it seems overkill when I think her chances aren’t that great. Especially since they say they offer everyone an audition. Thanks! (long time lurker here!)
