Do you mind saying whereabouts you are in Surrey @Chonavb? Closer to London or further out?

My daughter loved the Dance around the World day at Central which they run in half term. Planning to do it again. Four hours of dancing: always one class of ballet and then three other styles which vary each time. Last time was morris dancing, flamenco and Bollywood. Ages 8-16 divided into reasonable age groups.

If you’re close enough for Guildford to work then you might also want to look at Surrey Youth Ballet associates? It runs in Walton on Thames Jan-Sept so you’ve not missed it for this coming year. It’s a bit more local/accessible but my daughter (a junior who isn’t aiming at vocational ballet but possibly could) loves it and there are some kids who do go on to vocational training who’ve been through it. They do monthly Sunday classes, an hour ballet and an hour of a second discipline that varies. They also have a performance company but that’s over the autumn so kicking off soon. I’m also a newbie to all this but it’s been a friendly place to start. My daughter has her regular lessons elsewhere although some do come from the directors dance school.

Thank you! That was my instinct too but it’s hard not to be swayed when there’s talk of ‘coaching’ during the photo sessions. She’d be going in for the experience mainly (although obviously not a completely implausible candidate) and would rather not over-egg the pudding… Also it says 8-10 but I assume that means 8-10 at the end of the school year. She’s a late summer birthday so would be 10 at this point in year 6 but I assume that’s too late for JAs.

My daughter might audition next year - does everyone pay for professional photos?! On instagram (I know…) everyone seems to have done this but it seems overkill when I think her chances aren’t that great. Especially since they say they offer everyone an audition. Thanks! (long time lurker here!)
