My daughter has a place starting september dance but is on the Reserve list for MDS funding but are looking into fee Remission any insights into how it works awaiting communication early June. Stressful times x

Hi @Carlymay, there are a number of us on this forum in same position from years 7 to 10. My dd waiting to find out about fee remission for year 10 and it is definitely stressful. There is a post called Hammond Lower School auditions 2020 which you might find useful. Fingers crossed we get some communication next week after the 5th June deadline xx

    Yes

Great, is she in year 9 now going into year 10? Would be good to get in touch if my dd gets funding as would be nice for her to speak to people before she goes, however big IF at the moment x

  3. Morning everyone, I assume the lack of activity on this post means that everyone is still waiting for response from submission of finance forms. I think people are right that it will be after 5th June before we hear anything which just seems so late to get things organised, although we don't know whether schools will be fully back in Sept anyway unless it is safe for them to go back. The added complication of boarding must be making things very difficult for all vocational schools trying to plan for the new academic year. My dd auditioned in Nov last year so has already waited 6 months so what's a few more weeks!!

Hope everyone is staying safe xx

Nothing here either.  Gut feeling is it will be June before we hear anything.  More waiting...........

I think you might be right which doesn't give much time for anyone to sort out parental contribution as until we know if we are actually getting any fee remission I can't do anything as don't know how much I will need to raise or even if it is going to be possible as i cant raise full fees. Previous years have had this info by end of April, appreciate things more difficult this year but some communication would be good. I am unfortunately losing all hope as the time goes by. Hope everyone is staying safe xx

We too felt the indication was that they would give more info after the deadline date however they have actually given very little and we really have found communication disappointing to say the least.

It is frustrating that the only method of communication at the moment is email as it would be much better to actually talk to someone at this current time. I do appreciate things will be different this year due to current situation however our children have been offered places and if we could all afford it they would be going regardless of funding and therefore I really think they should be communicating with everyone the same. Fingers crossed for something soon, hope everyone is staying safe xx

  6. Looking at this forum in previous years it looks like people have received bursary offers quite quickly after MDS offers so there is still some hope we might hear before June. Am I right in assuming only MDS children have been contacted about boarding or has anyone else, ie full fee paying people??

The forms said to be returned by June 5th. I had presumed that they would wait until all were in to go through them and make decisions. Maybe I’m wrong. We haven’t sent ours back yet.

Yes I did think that but was hoping they would get back to people before then, maybe that is just wishful thinking! Xx

@Milzmam if I hear anything more I will post it here... But yes it looks like they are on it. I for one would not want to be co-ordinating all of this. I work I a boarding school myself and i can assure you that just adds another host of issues to planning for a return. Take care & don’t give up....

    Thanks xx

I spoke to the registrar yesterday confirming she had received our paperwork. I think the issue is that anything that was submitted prior to lockdown so 23rd March & in this case when accepting offer & being put forward for MDS. So the forms you have been re sent, the originals are at the school & due to the newish GDPR regs being so tight she can not take them home to work from. That is why you may have been sent another copy. Hope this helps. I was told they are having big virtual meeting tomorrow re boarding. We had to say today if we want boarding (my DD has MDS so not waiting) I presume this went to all MDS offers, maybe after they know how they can run boarding houses with social distancing they can speak to those on WL....

Thanks @Betty’s mum for update. At least we know they are working on getting things sorted if they have had communication with MDS people. Fingers crossed WL people will hear something soon xx

Still haven’t submitted our form. I am sure I posted my son’s passport and birth certificate photocopies at the first stage - but can not remember!!!! Does anyone else feel they’ve already done that?

Yes I did that when I completed registration forms and paid the fee after the first audition x

Has anyone had a reply about fee remission? It would be nice to know if it is a feasible dream or a pipe dream without winning lottery?

No,  not heard anything. I wonder if they will wait to see how many people submit forms first, in which case it could be a few weeks before we hear anything.

Just wondered if anyone could tell me or send me a list of what items my dd will need for dance at the Hammond for year 7, and if anyone has any inform available pls? We have already bought the uniform skirt, and the tracksuit, but which leotards, shoes etc. will she need? She only has ballet and pointe shoes. Tia

I assume all this info will be sent out with the registration forms that need to be completed once place is accepted and funding etc sorted.

Did you find out about this? We got told by the Hammond that for the year 7 intake this year there was only 12 MDS places but since, been advised after getting a place, that there are no longer any bursaries it’s now full price unless you get an MDS

I think they may have fee remission but not bursaries available to some but not sure how that works and not holding out much hope for my dd unfortunately

This comment is not coming from any ‘insider knowledge base, but if my child had been offered a place without MDS funding, I would contact the school in question and, regardless of any information previously given about potential fee support,  ask what they could do at this time for my child.

Over the 8 years that my dd has been a full time vocational pupil I have heard of many families who have asked questions, challenged decisions, asked for audition tapes to be reconsidered, negotiated payments etc etc and received a response that was different from the first one.

I know that not everyone will achieve their desired outcome, but if you don’t ask, you don’t know, and it might make a difference. We are in unprecedented times, and I think that decisions could be made by schools which might surprise and delight some families, but the schools might need a ‘helping hand’ to think about specific individual situations.

Good luck to all who are hoping for places.

Thanks, gives some hope to all us waiting xx
