  1. There’s a bit in the gov document about why it’s younger children- because of the evidence of reduced transmission etc. From the 20th it applies to all children. There’s no expectation for social distancing amongst the children just other measures such as cleaning, staggered start, crowd control of parents! at least it is a start and hopefully the ballet organisations can get some clarification for teachers. It’s the end of term But might help some with summer schools
  2. understand your frustration LinMM but hopefully it won’t be long until re-opening, to be honest it’s only recently that the necessary PPE has been available again which also would have made re-opening tricky
  3. We had a mini discussion on the adult ballet thread yesterday but thought I would post this link from RAD in case people have missed it. Hopefully some of our ballet teachers may be able to re-start soon https://www.royalacademyofdance.org/dance-classes-can-resume-from-4-july/?utm_source=Facebook_regionalpages&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Covid_danceschoolsreopening&fbclid=IwAR1O7KOePpBsAR070DC2ovmyk9XdQ-VKUU65hCb6N_OZL5OmLHw26VaPym0
  4. Healthcare professional is a specific term for those registered with a recognised professional body. so for example physiotherapists have to do an approved 4 year degree course and then register with the health and care professions council It’s illegal to say you are a physiotherapist without this. complementary therapists don’t have that requirement, so legally there is a big difference between practising as a physio and practising as a chiropractor etc. Which is not to say that individuals are not very skilled. There are voluntary registers which have been advising their members on re-opening so it will depend who she has membership with.
  5. I think it’s the qualifications of the person giving you the massage that makes the difference- whether it’s a recognised health professional. Otherwise I think it classes as the same as the ‘beauty’ industry. Many beauty therapists are extremely skilled and are very proficient at sports massage but without the health care qualification I don’t think they would be classes the same
  6. I’ve heard some chiropractors have opened or are imminently. Massage would probably be classed as beauty rather than healthcare though?
  7. Given the current situation with support for the arts they probably haven’t realised that dance studios are a place of education 🙄
  8. I don’t read it the same as you Kate, I think it refers to all tuition/ childcare etc. I agree unfortunately like much of the information it’s not clear though! As the Prime Minister confirmed in his announcement on 23 June, providers who run community activities, holiday clubs, after-school clubs, tuition and other out-of-school provision for children will be able to operate over the summer holiday with safety measures in place. it also mentions later on ‘as these settings re-open’ which makes me think it’s broader than just those on educational establishments. im not sure if there is still the facility to ask questions like there was with the briefings. It would be interesting to ask!
  9. I think they’ve had a last minute panic than there is no childcare available all summer! I can’t personally find anything that is running at all! Hopefully there will be potential for some of our ballet teachers to work and earn some much needed cash, there will certainly be a demand!
  10. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-for-parents-and-carers-of-children-attending-out-of-school-settings-during-the-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak/guidance-for-parents-and-carers-of-children-attending-out-of-school-settings-during-the-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak?utm_source= q1 in the faqs mentions ballet lessons specifically
  11. had to look it up and yes £20 per hour for a virtual class is a ‘little’ steep!
  12. Apparently ballet classes in England for children can restart from 4th July with safety measures in place (not too specific about what these are!), but unfortunately just children so more waiting for news for the adults...
  13. I agree with you that we all need to be mindful of our impact on others and that will depend partly on our own individual circumstances and risk factors. It’s tricky though, is there a distinction between a person travelling to earn a living and another person travelling which earns somebody else’s living! Especially difficult for small rural communities if they depend on tourism.
  14. It’s all very unclear but I don’t think you’re allowed to travel to Scotland currently without a very good reason. If you try and book a hotel or train etc it tells you it’s essential travel only, and they’re only accepting bookings for reasons approved by the Scottish parliament. I can’t remember when you’re due to go Michelle but I suspect the whole thing may be tricky, unless you could put it off until beginning of september?
  15. A lot of the regulations about bubbles are very recent. However everyone should be social distancing unless they’re in the same family group! Even the kids within the bubble are expected to stay 2 metres from each other (apart from the youngest children who are still encouraged to stay apart!)
  16. The bubbles are set by the school according to their conditions (size of classroom) up to maximum of 15. Most seem to be smaller than this- 8 or so due to space. They are not allowed to mix with other bubbles, the staff member in charge of the bubble can only be with one bubble and they can’t change classrooms.( In secondary some schools are having teachers change classroom for specialist subjects) because they would need to do a deep clean between (not sure exactly what is involved there but a lot are shutting for a day to do the deep clean) they can’t really have part class for part the week and swap over. Have heard of a school opening 5 days a week but majority aren’t, I presume they must have secured weekend cleaners as I don’t think the deep clean is optional. Some schools have said children are not allowed to a separate childminder ‘bubble’ and a school ‘bubble’. If you don’t follow social distancing etc outside school and they find out you forfeit your place. So they have put in a lot of measures to preserve the bubbles. It’s different for every school according to set up but all the kids I know who have gone back are really enjoying it and the teachers are making it a positive experience. Unfortunately as a teacher or TA is needed for each bubble it means the kids who are at home don’t get much contact, as the staff are with the kids in school. If yours aren’t back until September I suspect there will be a big re- think over summer as the current system can’t accommodate all the children.
  17. Some good provision, some not, some open, some not, some online teaching, some not. It was a friend who works in a school who said she was furloughed but may be zero hour contract or similar I don’t know. As Janet says let’s agree to disagree and move on!
  18. Well done to them, haven’t heard of any others providing that, they must be a great place to be involved with. I hope they are truly appreciated by the pupils and their families.
  19. As I said they’ve had savings; no exam invigilators, no cover teachers, reduced utilities, reduced paper and supplies, no subsidised school trips, staff on furlough......list goes on
  20. Absolutely, but if they have the device, providing a mifi to access the internet is not too expensive. Can’t speak for all schools but being shut and not having to pay cover teachers etc must have reduced running costs for our school this term. great to hear how well your local college have done oliviaT
  21. Great thank you, I will definitely make an effort to seek them out then.
  22. My child was doing 7or 8 hours initially, unfortunately we are on quite a steep downward trajectory! I think there has been a presumption that I speak from a position of affluence, unfortunately not! household income is below average so limited options for topping up what school provide
  23. I was a bit disappointed the ballet wasn’t live. It was good to get everything sorted and have to be somewhere at a specific time, it felt like a proper performance! Same as everyone else, i would have preferred something a bit more animated than some of the opera pieces chosen. I expect I will order the next one, as Vadim is perfect and I’d like to support the ROH. The ENB performances I presume are from the back catalogue that have been shown before? Haven’t had time to investigate those yet.
  24. This is true, so a damp mask would be some hazard to yourself. However, the aim of them at the moment is that they protect other people form you, so if everyone wears them it protects everybody! This isn’t influenced much by dampness they will still stop particles escaping still. You also mustn’t touch the mask whilst wearing it as you’re transferring particles to your hands. It only has to be a face covering so you may find a scarf or a bandana a little more comfy- not possible at the hairdresser though! If you visit the hospital without one they’ll also give you a mask. Best to try and find something re-usable though if possible- save the landfill! i thought they would be a no go for dance but have seen a lot of dance companies marketing them!
