  1. Thankyou. I am unfamiliar with this school. I have just been perusing the website and it appears that recent graduates either have contracts or are in post grad training. Is there any kind of funding available? If anyone has first hand experience, please share.
  2. Thanks for your response. RCS modern ballet does look like a fantastic course. Unfortunately, there is the issue of funding. My DS has an Irish passport, but Spanish residency. After a lot of research, I have discovered he would be eligible to apply for DADA funding or for student loan (tuition only, in England, before 2028, under the CTA agreement) but not, unfortunately in Scotland, as residency requirements are different. NBS is definitely on the wishlist!
  3. Yes! It is on his list. Thankyou! Looks great on web and social media. Any "insider information" welcome.
  4. A question, the A levels offered alongside the Trinity diploma course are optional? I ask, as my son will have just completed his schooling (A level equivalent).
  5. Interesting! Elmhurst had suggested that he could apply for entry into the 3rd year, because of his age, but as he is in no way ready for that, I had crossed it off the list. I will send in an application, see what happens. Thanks for the info.
  6. Thanks for that. I have been reading your posts over past couple of years. You have already been helpful! DS visited NBS in January and loved the atmosphere. I will contact you with any specific questions, as they come up. Thankyou!
  7. Hi. DS, who will be turning 18 in June 2023, will soon be making applications for full time ballet training starting September 2023. He has decided to apply to Northern and KS to do Trinity diploma course, and Central and another school that can't be discussed on this forum, to do degree course. He has decided not to apply to Rambert or LSC. His real love is classical ballet, he also does jazz and contemporary. Is there any other school he should consider applying to? His age excludes him from Elmhurst and Tring. I think his age might exclude him from the ENBS also, but has been advised to make application anyway. Any advice from parents/dancers who have gone through the process of applying to, or attending any of these schools, advice would be very welcome. Anyone currently going through this, or preparing to, support would be gladly received and willingly given.
  8. Another good suggestion. My daughter moved from the So Danca SD55 to So Danca SD120 in a width B when she was allowed by her teacher to move from leather flat sole to canvas split sole. The canvas has a stretch too, so fits to foot shape from first wear.
  9. My suggestion is So Danca SD55 width A. Available from Dancewearcorner in US. Online shopping.
  10. I will be following this thread with interest. My son will be applying for September 2023 entry, at age 18. He has visited NBS and loves it. Also considering KS and Central, if anyone can help with comparison.
  11. There is the Northern school of Contemporary dance in Leeds. They offer CertHE and BA (Hons). I think they consider students from 16 years old. There are many choices of degree courses in Europe, classes given in English language. Fontys or Codarts in the Netherlands are two with very good reputations. These are post A level or equivalent level of education.
  12. Natural peanut butter with apple slices. Mmm...
  13. Hi. I can't really help with the audition process for Morea Performing Arts, as my DD did all her auditions during lockdown last year, so were recorded. She was offered a place on 5 out of the 6 colleges she auditioned for, and she chose Morea over some better known, very established colleges, and she could not be happier there. So, any questions anyone might have about the college (from a mum's perspective), please ask.
  14. Have you looked into KS Dance in Warrington? It is a 3 year Trinity Diploma course with possibility of DaDA funding. I have heard very positive things about this school and they still have another audition date (April 25) for entry this September.
  15. Hi. My daughter's left foot has always been a little bigger than her right foot. Now it is maybe a little more than a half size bigger than the right. Which is weird as she is 17 and I thought her feet had stopped growing years ago. In street shoes or flats it really makes very little difference, but in pointe shoes, she is either pinching on the left in her "small" shoes or stuffing up the right toe box in her "big" shoes. She had left shoe stretched (as much as satin can be stretched), not a great success. I am thinking of getting her different sized left and right pointe shoes and I was just wondering if there is any reason why I shouldn't do this? Might it affect the hip?
  16. Hi Lusodancer, IAB is definitely on our radar. My DD won a scholarship to attend their summer school this year. Unfortunately, it was cancelled. They will honour it for next summer, but we would hope to have all applications and auditions completed by then. We may plan a weekend in Barcelona in September and see if we can look around premises and maybe DD can join in a couple of classes. I am unfamiliar with both PERA and the University of Malta dance course, but I am adding them to my research list now. Thankyou for that. Your DDs sound very disciplined, determined and creative! I'm sure you are very proud of them. Luck and patience are definitely what we need now (and an unexpected windfall?).
  17. Thankyou. The MT course in RCS looks great, a real triple threat course. My DD has been taking private singing lessons for the past year (minus 12 weeks of quarantine), but she really is a dancer who can sing a bit, rather than a singer who can dance a bit. She wants to do a dance course (degree or diploma) that also has singing and acting modules rather than a true MT or Triple threat. There are many that interest her : Laine, Performer's, SLP, LIPA and NBS. Urdang, Italia Conti and LSC too, although accommodation in London may prove to be just too far out of budget, especially if we have to cover fees. I await announcement from Scotland regarding EU and Irish student status for 2021 with baited breath!
  18. Hi Lusodancer, Thanks for your reply. My daughter will have completed Spanish Bachillerato (A level equivalent) by next June, so was looking into a BA or level 6 dance course. Top of her list would be Laine, performer's college or Urdang. It is interesting to see that your undergraduate musician qualified as UK student not EU, even without the residency. That gives me hope that my DD could qualify as Irish student, not EU. Do the universities/schools make that decision or SFE? I have looked into HE dance options in Spain, which are more geared towards ballet and contemporary. There are also a few private dance/musical theatre schools here, with BA degrees awarded by British Universities. This may be an option. Ireland has some fantastic private ballet and dance schools, but when it comes to HE, most Irish dance students go to UK to train. There are a some community colleges which do level 4 and 5, with a possibility of then doing a top up year in the UK. There is a good 2 year foundation course in Dublin in the College of Dance, but again, students tend to go on to full time training in the UK. The University of Limerick do a 4 year BA, but it is contemporary dance. I have also looked into Codarts and Fontys in the Netherlands. These 4 year BA courses are given through English. They are another possible option, but again, very strong contemporary emphasis. She is strong in ballet, contemporary and commercial, but her true love is Jazz, and with so many great options in the UK, that has been the dream. So, we are really hoping for student loan or DADA (or other scholarship). My dancing son is just 2 years behind her, but his focus is more ballet and contemporary, so I believe there will be more training options for him around Europe.
  19. Bad news for EU students planning to start 3rd level education in UK September 2021. It has now been announced that they will no longer be eligible for Home fees or student finance. This does not include Ireland, as they have separate agreement. My daughter has both Irish and Spanish nationality, but has resided in Spain her whole life. She should be entitled to home fee status, but I am not sure about either student loans or DADA, due to residency. I am desperate for a bit of clarity!
