Dd just did Tring (and hated it so didn't apply) the year before she had done Bird College and OPES.

    Hi Picturesinthefirelight,

Did your dd enjoy Bird? My dd is doing it this summer for a week, she’s 14. We’re hoping it will help her decide whether she wants to pursue dance as a career or go down the academic route when she’s older. She loves ballet but is more about her modern work these days.

  2. My DD goes to Renaissance and loves it, she’s 13 and in her second year. Like Pixiewoo said there seems to be lots of older ones who attend including a few I recognise from local dance championships and festivals as being very talented dancers.

My DD has really benefited from the body conditioning especially - they are worked quite hard but her stamina and strength have really improved and her leaps and jumps are very powerful now.

I would definitely recommend it. It works out roughly at £200 per term.

  3. My DD is also 13 and has developed quite suddenly. I do worry about her diet as she eats a lot of sweets that her friends at school seem to have an endless supply of (she doesn’t have the money on her to buy them herself). She’s very athletic but I can see she will need guidance on making healthy choices.

Its a difficult conversation to have as it’s a very sensitive subject but very relevant nonetheless.

  4. We went and had a fab time! My daughters did acrobatic Arts with Jordan Clark (Giselle from The Next Step) and commercial with Hollie Victoria. They also had a ‘pirouette surgery’, with Rosina Andrews and we saw Neil Jones from Strictly and James and Oliver from The Greatest Dancer. We were very impressed by Bird College. Spent a fortune on new dance wear as well! Really enjoyed the whole experience though and we all want to go back next year.

  5. We had an email yesterday saying we’d hear with an audition time in the next few days.

Both my daughters applied and I only got email confirmation to say they’d received the application for one of them, however both cheques were processed by my bank.

I also called NB to check both applications had been received and they had.

  6. Thank you so much for your replies.

We’re going to Move It so we’ll definitely be looking at the colleges.

Her dance school hasn’t had many graduates yet as it’s ten years old and started off with mainly little ones who are all still teens. One older girl went to The Hammond and now works on cruise ships.

She has announced in typical dramatic fashion that if she can’t be on the stage, she doesn’t want a job (!!!!) So I’m thinking it may be a good idea to talk to some colleges and get a feel for what’s out there and perhaps get some more singing tuition to strengthen that aspect. I just wanted an idea as to where it all leads really as I’m sure it’s very difficult to get into the West End and wondered what she could audition for if it turned out she wasn’t the required standard for that.
