Our Voices sounds very interesting indeed- I will make a point of seeing that. I’m also delighted about Giselle! I will probably book for Carmen as I’ve only ever seen it as an opera. Overall, I’m pretty pleased!

Vinke was indisposed for yesterday’s performance and was replaced by Norbert Ernst who did very well. I absolutely loved Lise Davidsen. I’ve seen a description of her voice as ‘gleaming’ and it really was. The Venusberg dance at the beginning was superb. So much to enjoy in this, my first ever Wagner opera - the emotion in Act 3 was overwhelming.

Audience Behaviour - Thread 2

The phone rules at the ABBA Voyage show are also very strict: no pictures are allowed to be taken at any point and a warning is given that anyone seen not adhering to this rule will be asked to leave. -
Thank you Sebastian! I’m looking forward to it

I’m going to next Sunday afternoon’s performance. I’d love to hear any forum members’ thoughts on this production.

On another note, there’s a very positive write up of Brooklyn Mack’s Siegfried in Monday’s links, written by Jonathan Gray for Gramilano. I was really impressed by Mack in Le Corsaire three years ago and he was dazzling in ENB’s 70th birthday gala. I was sorry not to be able to see him this time round but could only manage one show. Did any forum users see him in SL?

Thank you Emeralds, that’s really kind. I actually only exchanged about half an hour before curtain up - the box office staff were helpful and offered box number 1 instead of my original seat. It was quite a restricted view but at times the dancers were thrillingly close so I didn’t mind. The next box along only had one person in it, a young Italian man who could not have been more courteous and charming- so I was really very fortunate indeed in my audience experience. I do feel for those who had a bad experience as outlined above.

Emeralds, thanks so much both for your review and also for expressing what went wrong re the Coli’s expectations of audience behaviour. I was shocked and disappointed at the amount of background noise during the music at the start of Act 2 at last Sunday’s performance and couldn’t understand why the music wasn’t enough of a signal for people to stop chatting! Fortunately for me I was seated in a stage box on my own (exchanged from my original seat which I mentioned on the casting thread) so I was close enough to the orchestra for the noise to not make too much of a difference to me personally but I felt sad all the same that it was happening!

Goodness, Frola is in demand! Not surprising, though. I can’t remember when I last felt so emotionally invested in a performance of Swan Lake. In his solo in Act 1 I felt like he was taking us to the very depths of Siegfried’s soul…and Salenko’s tiny, frightened Odette brought me to tears. The whole company were outstanding- the pas de trois in Act 1 (Erik Woolhouse magnificent), the heartbreaking poetry of the swans, the divertissements in Act 3…all brought me joy. I wish I was going again!

Fantastic show this afternoon. I’ll say more at a later point but it’s fair to say that I was wowed by Iana Salenko; and Frola’s performance was also very special indeed.

Dawnstar, I really enjoyed reading your take on the production- it was interesting to see it through the eyes of someone seeing it for the first time. I definitely agree with you regarding the man in the kilt - that has always jarred with me! And my other beef regarding this production is the somewhat empty stage in Act 2, as Emeralds mentioned above - intriguing to hear this may have been for touring purposes. However, as I said upthread, I’m very fond of this production, warts and all. Perhaps because my children were so young when I first took them, it’s always felt magical to me. Thank you Emeralds for your fascinating contextualisation of the original sources and how that may have influenced Eagling’s intentions.

Thank you for the review, Emeralds. I enjoy watching the concert every year and usually text my Dad to see if he’s watching too - part of my NYD ritual. The dance was as beautiful as ever this year and I especially liked Pearls of Love.

Press Release: ENB Swan Lake Casting Announced for Coliseum
CCL replied to Sim's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Hi LinMM, that does sound like a nightmare and to be honest I could envisage that scenario and it put me off. However my husband encouraged me to give it a go so I’ll just cross my fingers and hope for the best! I will definitely feed back after the performance!- 75 replies

I’ve spent ages dithering about booking and if so when- and it’s almost sold out for the dates I’m interested in. So I’ve very rashly booked a seat in a box for the first Sunday performance- fingers crossed the other folk in the box will be amiable!- 75 replies

Hello Emeralds…I too love this production, partly because I’ve brought my two daughters almost every year since 2010, when we saw Erina Takahashi and Dmitri Gruzdyev in the two lead roles. I will have to check who was the Nutcracker at that first performance we saw, I think it may have been Fabian Remair. If I recall correctly, I saw Junor Souza play the Prince in 2014? Anyway - this production has become part of my family’s tradition and it never fails to enchant!

I attended tonight’s performance. I wasn’t at all sure if I was in the mood after having been to an emotional family funeral yesterday. But my goodness the music and dancing worked their magic for me. Emma Hawes and Aitor Arrieta have lovely chemistry together and are stunning when they dance solo too. The grand pdd drew tremendous applause, well deserved. I was also moved by Junor Souza’s Nutcracker in his pdd with Emma Hawes in Act 1. It was a delight to see some of my favourite ENB dancers in smaller roles: Precious Adamson, Katja Khaniukova, Fernando Carratala Coloma and Francesca Velicu all shone. All in all, this evening was an absolute tonic. Thank you ENB!

I felt for Kane. There was an added layer of challenge taking a penalty against his Spurs team mate Lloris and I wondered if someone else should have taken that second penalty. Easy to be wise after the event of course- and I agree the refereeing was shocking.

I’ve got the Emma Hawes/Aitor Arrieta performance on 23 Dec; I saw them in Raymonda and they were excellent so I’m happy with that. I haven’t yet booked for Swan Lake - I saw Frola in that last time (I had a Frola hat trick that season of Nutcracker, SL and Manon, lucky me!) and would love to see him in SL again - so hanging on for casting!
