Yes, I think it's not going to be a problem. Not sure where this paranoia came from!

And in Muswell hill, where we have to pay a further Β£1.75 booking fee.... ....BUT! I think we'll get our money back, as the feed died 10 mins before the end π I failed to fall in love with Nunez, although her dancing was superb. I bought her Odile far more - a brilliantly smug and scheming look on her face. Felt very sorry for Francesca for nearly falling over, but she was so gorgeous we can all forget about that. Act 3 pretty good, I thought - LOVED the set - but wot no Russian Dance?

This would be in a college (to be precise, we're talking Jesus College, Cambridge). I would hope that the Ball organisers would be the people who should be in the know, but I was trying to work out what the general rules are!

Thanks - although I don't see how a May Ball is "Educational Purposes"!

So DD is trying to put together a set to perform at a University May Ball and is looking around for music. One question relates to licensing of music at such events. I presume that the event organisers will have some form of licence, even if just for a "disco", but how would that relate to dance background music? If one wanted to use, say, a Khachaturian piece less than 100 years old and maybe recorded just 10 years ago, how does one get permission?

I note that Evening Standard plagiarised that tweet from Bruce Marriott!

I agree with all that! I confess that I also had a rather frustrating day at work, and we squeezed in a dinner with maybe a glass of wine too many at Tonica in Exmouth Market. As a result, I was slightly struggling to keep my eyes open towards the end of the first half. It was a very dark ambience in the theatre, which didn't help. Both the music and the dancing were, I felt, exquisite (how fantastic to have a proper orchestra), but not understanding what was going on made the first half rather challenging. A coffee at the interval helped with the second half which I agree was easier to appreciate. I would really like to buy the soundtrack, and agree that a second trip to Sadlers Wells (or maybe to the autumn tour?) would enhance my enjoyment. First time for us to see Rambert - won't be the last. We probably wouldn't have gone were it not for the fact that a friend was playing in the orchestra. Talking to him at the interval, I was amused by the fact that they've hardly seen any of the dancing (and probably won't!). PS - I've only just now read the programme and wish I'd done so at the interval (or earlier)....

Just wondering if anyone went to the preview night, or has read any reviews of it? We're going tonight...

Well, maybe I should suggest to Wayne that he has a go at couru - I know it's normally associated with female dancers, but I don't think he'd let that stop him!
-
Diagonally, of course π
-
I was wondering rather idly how far a good ballerina could couru? Maybe 100m, maybe 1km? Don't suppose it's a recognised challenge, is it?

Good luck from here too! Yes, as long as you go with hope more than expectation, and treat it as a learning experience, then it should be a positive experience. Miss Lewis manages to combine professionalism with kindness. Even if there's crying/disappointment to begin with, it can lead to more resilience and determination in the future. We all have to start somewhere, and this is a great place to start...

I presumed a UK premiere. So I guess a big ask! ;-) but glad to hear it comes from a good address... -
Just wondering if anyone here has seen this? A friend is in the orchestra, so thought I'd go along, but not quite sure what to expect!

How to pronounce Don Quixote?

Sounds like that bit in Monty Python and the Holy Grail! -

Iβm pretty confident on the βDonβ bit ;-) -
I've heard the same. Although I guess the tricks to get a distinction must be a useful set of things to know!

The Ballet Club does get a certain subsidy from the University and could likely afford to pay something towards a workshop. The Music faculty has West Road, which is where most of the ballet shows are performed. Very nicely raked seating, too. They're toying with the idea of having a live orchestra for their next Spring show, but I'm not sure that it won't be hard to find one good enough that's available!

Sorry, my use of the term was not in reference to yours, but more an indication that I felt he might not be viewing this as a commercial opportunity. My involvement with the ballet club is very indirect and mostly as an interfering parent (DD being vice-president) but they do already have teachers etc. My guess is that inviting along a more famous figure will be less likely to cause the existing teaching talent to feel in any way slighted/snubbed - IYSWIM. I didn't know he was injured. Must be so frustrating. I find it annoying when a mere sore achilles prevents me from doing my weekly Park Run(!) - I can't imagine what it's like for these guys.

DD2 has offered her baby-sitting services in exchange. Very cute, aren't they? ;-)

Cheers all! For the avoidance of doubt, I wasn't going to say "Yeah, Kevin, maybe Natalia's not busy tomorrow - if we give her the coach fare, maybe she'd like to pop up and show us a thing or two" ;-) So my questions are purely innocently ignorant! And, to a certain degree, a bit of an exploratory/kite-flying exercise. However.... I did note that Steven Macrae was inviting questions from all and sundry by DM on Twitter, so I asked ("who should I contact...?") and he seemed very friendly and suggested that he might be on for a visit himself, if a mutually convenient time could be agreed. Boggle! No idea what fee he'd be after, but he wasn't suggesting that we go via his agent....
