Wow, nice and early. I like that. My DD is signed up for the London insight day in a couple of weeks so we are waiting to see how that goes/if she likes it. Her brother is a yr5 JA so we travel there anyway - I really doubt it’ll happen but it’d be lovely if she could join him.

I don’t think it matters really. If your DD is performing the night before and it’s likely to be a late evening then maybe go for the centre that is closest to where you’ll be so she could get a good rest? I believe you can audition at one centre for a place at another if you contact them but I’m not 100% certain (hopefully someone will come along that knows more on that). That said, I bet the excitement would be enough to keep her eager/performing well even on not so much rest.  :)

Ha ha her teacher is keen 🙂

If it was a single performance/late night we'd still go for the Birmingham but it's a busy few days with the MTB show. And all other venues are equidistance hence the dilemma...

We're at the London insight day too!

You can definitely audition at a different centre to the one you are applying for. Lots of people did last year to avoid clashes with All England regionals. Go for whichever is must convenient in terms of travel or accommodation.

Thanks for confirming - I'll start having a look at accommodation/travel. Does anyone know where the Leeds / Manchester auditions are held? Is it Centre Point for Manchester?

  2. Photos done today and application almost ready to go in!

Unfortunately my DD is in a performance the night before one of the Birmingham (our closest centre) dates so, wanting her to be fresh for the audition, looking for the next best option. Given the choice would you go for Leeds, Manchester or London, or does it really not matter?

@BellaF I’ve decided against it I think. More for logistic reasons than anything else. Will your DD be boarding?

Inter F work at 9!!! That’s fair going.

    Yes she will be boarding.

She's definitely not inter f standard! As I say she's only just taken grade 1 😃 But her teacher thinks she's got some catching up to do so introducing her to the syllabus now.

  4. @SJBallet we've come to the decision to book our DD into Malvern - so they'll be at least one other 9 old there!

I suspect she'll be one of least experienced there as well - she has only just taken her RAD grade 1 though is starting grade 2 and 3 at the same time now and is covering some inter F at the occasional private... hope she'll be ok.

@SarahBalletDid you find anymore information about the Vaganova auditions at NKBS?  It says they are in January but I can't find details.  We are thinking about trying for Vaganova and Bolshoi Ballet Academy.

Does anyone know what the standard will be to get in?

I’m pretty sure they held the audition as part of their winter intensive but could be wrong...

  6. What I find puzzling is just last month they advertised that audition dates would be released today - given todays announcement I'm not sure what auditions would be for.  Surely plans can't have changed that much in a few weeks?

Or perhaps I should stop trying to read as much into things 🙂

They do have info up. And sadly it says there’s no summer course this year. 😭

Just clocked the FAQs - what a shame! This is the first year DD would have been old enough.

Was expecting more information than we've got if I'm honest... Feels like they were planning to share audition dates etc.today but for whatever reason couldn't, so put up the FAQs as holder.

I’d be interested in this too. I’ve just seen the Malvern spring intensive and am wondering whether to apply. DD is 9 (Sept bday) and I can’t decide whether she’s just a little too young yet. She’s already decided that she’s applying for them all next summer when she’s 10 so I don’t know whether to just wait. Location wise they are all so far away 😳

Let me know what you decide! My DD (also September birthday) is so keen to go I think we might just book on.

  9. I’ve booked my daughter on the London day though will be applying for the Birmingham centre for a year 5 place.

First year of auditioning for us! I have my reservations about her facility (not flat in froggy) and she’s not the typical RBS build with quite muscly legs (though skinny everywhere else). But more than one teacher has suggested she tries and I suppose you have to be in it to win it 😀

Will try for Elmhurst too and maybe Tring CBA which is a little further away.

In my experience (in Sydney) this is not a large number of 11/12 year olds going full-time.   Most students entering full time are 14/15/16 year olds.

Some young students go full time because they live in an area that can not offer elite training.

Also, homeschooling and Distance Education have a long history in Australia.  Everyone under 16 follows a curriculum overseen by a state-based Board of Education whether it be through a bricks & mortar school or alternate education option.

I also understand that good quality dance training can be offered in 'normal' schools. A friends DD will start next year at one (in Sydney) that incorporates dance very much into wider education and has a company that competes at a high level at Eisteddfods etc.
