    Oh heavens NO, my dear.

Muntagirov indeed would be a sublime Daphnis, far too transcendent to burden him with the vastly overrated and deeply insipid mediocrity of Hayward.

Now Trinidad Sevillano was a gorgeous Chloe, Sibley was a delight as was Penney on her good nights. Ah fond memories, thank you dearest darlex.

So he/she signs off with another “opinion” on a dancer that is held in high regard with the description of being “deeply insipid” . This is a troll, no reason to mention Francesca at all, not part of this thread so why mention her unless to provoke. I have seen this style before on this forum, the best thing for everyone to do is to ignore it all, do not respond.

So, would anyone like to report on the RBS performance, which I was unable to attend?

It was wonderful, Alison. The program planners managed with there choice of ballets to involve all the pupils in each year group and to be able to see how they grew year by year was just amazing until the dancers who leave this year are truly professional standard  dancers. Everyone talks about Harrison Lee and Yu Hang, and rightly so, how the RB only gave them one year deals is astonishing, but there is huge talent all over. The cheers at the end were deafening. If there is a better way to close a performance than the Grand Defile then I have yet to see it, thrilling conclusion. What a brilliant day, thank you RBS.

I caught that piece ..Multiplicity forms of silence and emptiness ...at the Mikhailovsky Theatre ( such a gorgeous place) in St Petersburg when I was there last year and loved it. Do they keep some of the pieces they do at Holland Park for the main stage at ROH performance does anybody know? Would love to see this again on Sunday!!

I am going to the dress rehearsal tomorrow so I assume I can tell the programme, it’s not a secret is it?

  4. Does the fact that all the students joining the RB are on this apprenticeship scheme mean that the door for joining the company on a full contract is now closed. I am not going to give any names but there is one dancer their who was very much in demand following a win in a famous competition, who had the choice of all the ballet companies and chose the RBS and whose star has continued to rise is not deemed suitable for a full contract. I can understand it if they have not been able to judge the persons work ethic or personality but being a pupil of their school does give them plenty of opportunities to measure those things.

I hope Hirano is OK: he bent over and grabbed his ankle (?) after the Black Swan men's variation in today's dress. He hobbled off, laid down in the wings during Odile's variation, but finished the coda and seemed fine from that point. I did not stay for Act IV.

One word for the Act III set:  LAVISH.  A far cry from the Sonnabend ballroom which looked straight out of The Munsters.  The model shown in the rehearsal insight doesn't do it justice.

He definitely hobbled off but did complete the ballet, I wonder if it was a touch of cramp.

  6. The longest standing ovation I was involved in was at the end of a promenade concert at the RAH many years ago. It was a celebration of the birthday of William Walton, born in my home town of Oldham,  it was Belshazzar's Feast and we applauded for 47 minutes - he actually returned to the stage wearing his hat and overcoat. It was a standing ovation because we were prommers and were standing anyway. Just made it to the pub before last orders - that's how long ago it was.  Happy days.

I’ve only done it once, when we saw Johan Kobborg and Alina Cojacaru’s extraordinary “Mayerling” but so did the whole theatre.

I have stood twice - Like you, Fiz, after Alina and Johan's final RB performance and at the National Theatre's 7 hour, two in a day, performances of Angels in America - which is/was truly astonishing.

Gosh, that's a surprise!  Sadly I don't have tickets for that cast as the dates don't fit.  I am quite surprised that they didn't put James Hay in there, considering what a great partnership he and Akane made in Sleeping Beauty.  Or what about Alex Campbell, after the amazing Manons they have just done?  As there does seem to be a Principal pecking order, wouldn't Alex have priority here?    Does William already know the role from his BRB days?  Mind you, this is a new production so I guess even if he knows the basics there is still a lot to learn.  I hope it works really well!

Isn’t Alexander in Australia on a swap visit?
