It's going to incredibly difficult to get tickets for the RBS performances in the Linbury (and, to an extent, on the main stage) as the school have confirmed the parents of the students will have priority (I'll let you know how booking for RBS Friends goes).

Do you happen to know, but I read somewhere that the lower school performances will be performed at White Lodge not in the Linbury.

Joining LBC has been one of the most enjoyable things I have done during the current lockdown!

What a great evening tonight.  Thank you.

Didn’t Gavin Sutherland mention you recently saying he waits for you to say you are ready before he begins. Seems a lovely chap.

The LBC post above has the wrong date for Carlos Acosta, should be April not March.

Anna C - just to say that I do relate to those behind me when I want to stand and would not dream of doing so regardless of other people.
I turned round to check in the Stalls Circle yesterday but, of course, there was no one there!

The ‘leaving the auditorium’ syndrome is a difficult one. Yes, there are trains to catch but, if so, timing one’s exit just as the curtain goes down is preferable to the sometimes mass exodus while the dancers are taking their bows.

Interestingly, there was none of that yesterday.

Really looking forward to hearing about the performance today (Sat).

I would think the lack of people leaving as soon as the performance ended was due to the request by the management that we should remain in our seats until the ushers said it was our turn to leave.  Social distancing to be kept.

Enjoyed this very much. I thought that Anna-Rose O’Sullivan was showing a new maturity in her style (I mean that as a positive) and I concur with the approval for Leo Dixon. Very interesting to hear Christopher Saunders talking about some of the issues of partnering. Good to see the lovely Romany Pajdak. Has any other dancer made her debut as Clara having been the Nurse in Romeo and Juliet? I think she is a most lovely artist who has taken a long time to find any sort of prominence but I am not entirely sure that management quite knows what to do with her particular talents. For what it is worth, I think she’d be a wonderful Larisch and an interesting choice as Giselle.

Spot on James, could not agree more. She performed beautifully in the gala recently and like others are sorry the casting was not available before booking opened as I would like to have seen her. There is a huge amount of talent in this company, how can they all be kept contented?  For clarity I am talking about Romany, Anna-Rose is already well established.

Is there a limit to the number to tickets/performances you can buy? The note on the website says you can buy a maximum of 6 seats but coming straight after the descripton of how the seats are set our that seems to be sound like 6 is the biggest size of your group. A friend has only been able to book two tickets and can't buy more for any other performance

I had that problem too. I got 2 tickets for the rehearsal which is the limit. I then booked 2 for Friday the 11th and that was it, when I looked again on different dates it said I had reached my limit but the info page said we can buy up to 6. Emailed Box Office but no reply so far.

  6. Just received a response from the ROH  Box Office advising that for anyone buying tickets this week:-

"I am afraid that due to the added complications of the lockdown period, we are not yet in a position to announce casting for upcoming performances of The Nutcracker. We hope to be able to announce in the coming weeks and apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Bit disappointed, I do like to pick.

  7. What great reviews, well done everyone.  What amazing talent we are blessed with and what a job Mr. O’Hare has on his plate.  Tonight, ( really every night they dance ) Nela and Vadream the perfect partnership, loved Francesca’s Swan Lake, something to savour.  Morera’s Manon, not seen her dance this  so added to my list of must does. Top of the list for me has been Ms Magri’s Carousel and tonight’s Corsair, Ball partnered her beautifully, but did she fill her boots tonight, fantastic.

Made me realise how much I have missed this place, got to get rid of this virus.

    The Royal Ballet in Class

Every professional ballet dancer attends a daily class to prepare their bodies for the rehearsals and performances ahead. Gain an insight into this fascinating routine by watching dancers from the Company take class on the main stage on:

Friday 6th November at 10.30am (members only)
    Friday 13th November at 10.30am

For Friday 6th who are members?  Does that include Friends+

  9. Tonight just reminded me how much I miss the RB. The Elgar cello concerto was already burned in my heart having seen du Pre and Barbarolli  with the Halle  perform it wonderfully,  now in a different genre,  hearing it again within a backdrop of her relationship with Barenboin and others in her life and the illness leading to her death was beautifully portrayed by Lauren,  Matty, Marci with an exceptional support cast and orchestra. Very moving; beautifully and lovingly choreographed by Cathy Marston; a total, total joy.  DVD please.

I cannot imagine theatres reopening before spring or summer 2021, when a COVID vaccine may be readily available. Audiences and the production teams (including performers) would not be able to maintain safe distances. I hope I’m wrong.

With regard to audience distancing and the economics of each performance...how can people be asked to, say, pay for two seats — their own and one of the empty seats beside him/her? Or is the government going to subsidize each empty seat? Think about it. Every other seat at ROH staying empty. Who’s paying for the empty seats? If the answer is the public, then the serious arts will become more elitist than ever.

Solution? I would happily pay a decent reasonable amount to watch live or rare filmed performances online. After this “COVID Season,” I believe that the streaming of performing arts is here to stay. Three cheers, I say, for the overwhelming majority of ballet lovers who don’t reside in New York City or any of the dozen other cities on earth with regular world-class ballet. One thing that I would not miss: shelling out money for travel and hotels (and meals and all else), for the chance to see new ballets or favorite old ballets with new casts. Regardless of this or future pandemics: bring on the streaming!

Separation is not just the seat either side of you it’s also seats in the row in front and also the row behind you, they are also too near.  We have all seen the queues for the ladies at the intervals, how could each of those to be deep cleaned between use.  Unless a vaccine is found and we can treat everyone attending it’s not going to be 2020.

  11. Having started this thread regarding extending Friends membership renewals because of the lockdown and lack of performances. For completeness I have received a reply from the Opera House which I copy the relevant part below.

"Whilst your membership is a donation, we are aware that many members choose to join us in large part because of the benefits which we give in thanks for your generosity. We are in the process of evaluating how best to manage the delivery of these benefits and assessing a range of options for recognising your support whilst we are closed.

I would be so grateful if you please bear with us while we consider your request for an extension of your membership until the completion of this work; we will be in touch in due course.

My thanks again for your generous support of the ROH, we are reliant on your donation now more than ever."

So, they are considering all the options.
