  1. It certainly was, kiwimum! There are photos and comments under the Performances seen forum.
  2. What a pity, Meunier. It was so enjoyable - just the antidote you needed by the sound of things!
  3. A wonderful evening. Steven McRae was amazing - how does he have time to keep his tap to such a high standard!? Outstanding too were Tobias Batley, Jessica Morgan and Nicola Gervesi of Northern Ballet in Bitter Earth - exquisite and moving. All the performers were excellent and it was an evening full of joy, laughter and superb entertainment. Congratulations and thanks to everyone involved.
  4. Great, Janet, that Brandon and the others are definitely dancing. Also Le Corsaire performed by English National Ballet soloist Lauretta Summerscales has been confirmed it seems..
  5. Let's hope we can meet up. Perhaps we'll recognise faces from York!
  6. Tickets have been selling better, but plenty still available at all prices. Am looking forward to Sunday.
  7. I see that Steven McRae has confirmed that he'll be dancing on 29th for YBSS Gala - on his facebook pages - some good pictures and other interesting items there too!
  8. Those dancers who attended the York course this year may be able to spot themselves at the start of the gala evening in a short film made at YBSS this summer by the Balletboyz. This will be followed by remarkable footage of a 14 year old Brandon Lawrence, ex-YBSS student, & now with the BRB. The Star Studded Gala is to raise funds for the Yorkshire Ballet Summer School, which is a small charity. Over the years many students have benefitted from scholarships and bursaries to attend. Hosted by Sir Ant (Dowell) & Sir Dec (Jacobi), the line-up includes singer Michael Ball, Imelda Staunton, Jim Carter from Downton Abbey, Samantha Bond, Wayne Sleep, Sergei Polunin, Balletboyz “the Talent”, and stars of the Royal Ballet [steven McCrae & Elizabeth Harrod], Birmingham Royal Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Northern Ballet, Rambert Dance Company & English National Ballet . Tickets £12 to £60, with some at £85, which includes a programme & post show reception. Book on 0844 412 4300 or www.sadlerswell.com
  9. Thanks, Janet. I'm sure I will. I certainly enjoyed their Gatsby.
  10. Yes, indeed Janet, and, as well as the YBSS gala, I'm also looking forward to seeing Northern Ballet's A Christmas Carol in Norwich in October!
  11. Should have mentioned that I have put details of the Gala in aid of the Yorkshire Ballet Summer School on the news and information forum.
  12. In two weeks, still a bit of a wait I know, there is a gala at Sadlers Welle on Sunday 29 September in aid of the Yorkshire Ballet Summer School - great line-up. Should clear those blues away!
  13. Star Studded Gala in aid of the Yorkshire Ballet Summer School - Sunday 29 Sep 2013, 7pm Sadlers Wells. Hosted by Sir Ant (Dowell) & Sir Dec (Jacobi), the evening will start with a short film made at YBSS 2013 by Balletboyz, Michael Nunn & William Trevitt, followed by remarkable footage of a 14 year old Brandon Lawrence, ex-YBSS student, & now with the BRB. The line-up includes singer Michael Ball, Imelda Staunton, Jim Carter from Downton Abbey, Samantha Bond, Wayne Sleep, Sergei Polunin, Balletboyz “the Talent”, and stars of the Royal Ballet [steven McCrae & Elizabeth Harrod], Birmingham Royal Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Northern Ballet, Rambert Dance Company & English National Ballet . 14. Golding is guesting with ENB in Le Corsaire this fall. Considering he still has to dance for DNB as well, I doubt he has time to do Don Q with the Royal too! You might also like to check out the DNB DVD of their Nutcracker with Golding/Tsygankova, which has recently been release. Toursenlair, That is good to know. Many thanks.
  15. Aileen, it certainly sounded like a barrel organ, but from where I was I couldn't see the orchestra pit.
  16. Curiouser and curiouser! It was pantomime farce and music hall frolics and even some ballet with the twist thrown in at the end!! Not my cup of tea, but, judging by the applause at the end, many people did enjoy it. Certainly Sergei danced well, but I felt the principals could have done so much more. Having seen this Coppélia I now understand Sergei's comments on the ballet in the Metro this week - "He’s also pretty dismissive of what he calls ‘happy ballets’ – which Coppélia is. ‘It’s just to show off, that’s all you do – you play stupid and playful.’ "
  17. Went to Wimbledon this afternoon, but to the New Theatre, not the tennis! ENBS students danced really well. They gave wonderful performances of Balanchine's Allegro Brillante, with Daniela Oddi and Mlindi Kulashe in top form and I particularly enjoyed Macmillan's Soirees Musicales with Ashley Scott, Alejandro Alvarez Longines, together with Filippo di Vilio, Francois-Eloi Lavignac, John Rhys Halliwell and Jordan Picardo leading a very strong cast. No time for more, back to TV - Andy Murray is back on court after a break for the roof. Do go to see ENBS, if you can, tomorrow 6 July at 2pm. It's a big theatre, so there'll be tickets available. Well worth the trip!
  18. I saw the some third students rehearsing a Balanchine number on Thursday, on a visit with London Ballet Circle. They were wonderful, and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the programme next week-end at the New Wimbledon Theatre. Times are Friday 5 July at 2 & 7.30 or Saturday 6 July at 2. Well worth going, I reckon.
  19. Yes, it was really a great performance. It was the first time that we had seen a performance by the West London School of Dance and we were very impressed by the whole production. Well done, everyone! Nice to see you again too, Spax.
