Thanks, think I'll book into one!

Has anyone done one of the Birmingham Royal Ballets insight days? They're on their website under the Learning tab, they look like they'd be good and I was thinking about booking into one. Does anyone have any experience?

Just wondering how far would people travel to do an EYB production? I missed audition for my local production in Torquay earlier this year and am wondering if I should audition for Weston super mare one, it's a two hour train journey :/ -
Thank you swanprincess not sure how much the private lessons will cost though, that wasn't discussed! x

Very similar! I'm grade 7 (although I skipped grade 6) and I attend the grade 8 class as well, and inter and I attend the advanced 1 (we don't do advanced foundation) class as well. I would be auditioning for 2013 entry so this autumn/winter - bit scary! I've just spoken to my dance teacher and she's happy to support me and says she will give private lessons x

I've looked in auditioning into for Bristol Russian Youth Ballet Company and they've said audition is by invitation only and could I please send my CV and a photo in 1st arabesque. What do I need to put in a dance CV? I've never had to write one before! And when they say send do you think they mean email or by post? Thanks

I have a week long course with her starting tommorow so can talk to her then That course looks great! I've never seen/heard of anything like if before. For associate courses in London, how crazy do you think it is to travel four hours there and back once a week? I've been thinking about it for a while. London senior ballet have auditions for entry sep 2012 on 8th sep - are they good (teachers, training etc) has anybody gone there or know of those who have?
-
Thankyou for your help everyone, I will look into all options you've suggested I'm 15 (only just) so would be auditioning for 6th form places this autumn/winter - not much time! Im trying to do ad much dance as i can. I love ballet so much and that would be my dream to get into a ballet school, however as you say robin it's alot harder if you're a late starter so I think I may look into general performing arts schools aswell. Maybe somewhere like rambert would be good that have ballet and contempory? Does anybody have experience?

I tried for the CAT in Exeter but was ill and jet lagged on the audition day so didn't dance well Which are the best associate courses in London? I really want to try for RBS associate but I think I'm too old to try this year. Last year I wasn't so into dance but have suddenly developed a passion for it and gone from 1 class a week to 6! There are elmhurst PVPs in Plymouth but for primary school children unfortunately, not sure about Bristol. I looked on EYB website and it doesn't mention any forthcoming auditions in southwest - fingers crossed there might be!

No I'm not, i live in Devon and there is nothing like that around, I posted a thread on it before and others said they'd had no luck with associate courses in Devon either
-
Yes, I suppose so. I think I'm a bit worried that she'll say its unrealistic when I would at least like to give it a go I think so I can say ive tried.
-
No, it sounds silly but im sort of a bit scared to talk to her about it :s

How much dance vocabulary should somebody auditioning for sixth form places have? I really want to audition but can't help feeling that I would be too far behind and with no hope

I have the RAD Intermediate DVD and want to put it on my ipod so then I can listen to the music and practice and remember dances in places where theres no DVD player (car, train etc.) Does anyone know how I could do this?? I'm not great at technology Thank you!

Ok thank you for the advice. My teacher didn't demonstrate so I will hold off doing the exercise for now, I have summer school in two weeks so I can ask her then. I have wondered if my pointe shoes are holding me back, you're right spanner that I don't have very high arches and insteps so I think next time I'll try a lower vamp.
-
She just said pointing against the resistance of the band and really working through the foot. My shoes are Grishko Triumphs.
-
I did speak to my teacher and she has told me to use a theraband to strengthen and I was wondering if people had any other ideas which I could work on over summer so I have beautiful pointy feet in September Yes they are my first pair, but I think I've broken them in. How would I tell if they needed more breaking in?
-
I find it really hard to get over the box of my pointe shoe so that my big toe is properly on the floor. I think this is because my foot isnt strong enough. Does anyone have any good strengthening exercises that have worked for them? Thank you

'her dance teacher feels that at 16 she will be at the required grade to audition for vocational schools. ' Do you know what the required grade to audition for vocational schools generally is? I am interested in auditioning for a vocational school at 16 but would have to catch up quite fast

I was just wondering what is the average age people are when they're studying RAD grade 5 and RAD intermediate? Maybe there isn't a specific answer to this question but I was just wondering as I am a late starter in ballet and think I'm probably behind for my age.

Ok thank you
