  1. As a parent of a vocational child I have rarely come across classical students who are entitled. Most are desperate to have the type of training received by those international students helicoptered in for US.

I agree that the some schools are shirking responsibilities to British students and to the UK tax payer. Mr Powney's comments were embarrassing - maybe this is why he often misses UK auditions......

  2. I totally understand the comments about associates and vocational trainees. Why do the Associates accept them??

I can't comment on Tring but my DD was at another vocational school and I know there are many 'non vocational' students, lucky to live near dance schools with excellent provision, who were doing more ballet than she was. It's never black and white....

  3. In the short term especially when they've just started boarding the advice from everywhere seems to be to not have too many visits out of exeats to allow them to settle.

In the longer term if they haven't settled and you're doing weekly visiting then I guess it becomes part of the overall assessment of pros and cons of them being away - can you afford the extra travel, is it unfair to siblings if they are involved in travel each weekend or miss activities because of it? As a parent can you manage the extra travel with your job and caring commitments? What dance options are available at home? How bad is the homesickness?

Personally if my DD had needed weekly visiting then unfortunately she'd have had to leave because the strain on the family would be too much. And in the end the child's well being is more important than vocational school.

I hope that doesn't sound unsympathetic @Newbiemum. The first time they go away is very hard for all! Poor you 💙💚💜

  4. @Peanut68 - excess is £100 per person per year. So multiple claims don't require further excess payment.

    Excess was £100 but adjustable.

With AXA a Dr who uses AXA advised us to go for full outpatient cover (otherwise hospital choice limited) and also not the cheaper option where if you can be seen in NHS in 6 weeks use that (applies to first appt not treatment). I went for mental health cover as so lacking in NHS.

  5. Hi

Just an update to complete the thread.

We renewed with an (individual) continuation policy with AXA/PPP with whom she was covered under the Lower School group policy.

It is actually cheaper by £250 than we were paying to school which surprised me! It's £100 excess and covers physio as well as usual medical stuff.

So - if you have/are planning to renew with a school policy it may be worth looking at getting cover yourself. The only major disadvantage to not using a school policy would be if you have a pre-existing condition - from memory we weren't asked about any prior to taking up the school policy. For us as this counted as a continuation policy any cover for any pre-existing conditions continued.

The other issue is that physio referral normally needs to go via a GP but I know at school they had negotiated a direct to physio policy.

    Hope that is clear!

  6. Hi

DD had a private policy through school for Lower School. The Upper School she is going to doesn't offer a policy. Has anyone arranged a policy independently at all?

The main issue is that the excess was £100 with school policy. The smallest excess I am looking at currently is £250 which covers a lot of physio sessions which is the main thing we are likely to use it for......

    Any input gratefully received. Thanks
