  1. Thank you so much for all the help and advice! As soon as possible, a huge chat is required with my dance teacher I think. Changing dancing schools may be the only way forward I think. Have there been classical ballet dancers who have only started vocational training at 16+ ?

I don't think that Vocational Schools would accept at 16 if they didn't feel there was a possibility of employment.

  2. I have 3 beautiful degas leotards (style 9502) rubi indigo and blanc. Bought for us auditions and hardly worn. Retail price is £43.99 . Available for £25 plus p&p.

Style can be see in the just ballet website and I can send pictures via whatsapp

    All are size 0

  3. I believe EEA students are still eligible for funding here and British students are still eligible for funding at European schools such as Hamburg and Berlin. But if that is assessed on an annual basis then, as Flora points out, some students might find themselves without funding for their final year.

However, as it's all a guessing game at the moment, I wouldn't think it would have an effect on applications/acceptances until Article 50 is invoked. And EEA students from wealthier families (i.e. those who have a household income of over £90,000 a year and fall outside DADA eligibility anyway) would be unaffected by the changes.

It will be interesting to see because at present the DADA is awarded for the duration of the course (3 years) with no reassessment unless there is a declared income change. A possible administrative nightmare ahead for the schools involved and a smaller audition pool in years to come depending on the outcome of the brexit negotiations..... Keep calm and carry on

  4. Post 16 education seems to be a minefield at the moment - more and more options springing up for training but unfortunately seemingly less and less jobs for graduates. I think it's really sad for our kids but also sad for the parents trying to fund the dreams with small prospects of a "living wage" at the end of it all. Training establishments have never had it so good imo or am I being cynical?

  5. There's vocational college coming to the Hampshire/Berkshire border for 16+ that I just know will be phenomenal- details aren't out yet but I'll post on forum when I have more info.

I know exactly what you mean about being space in the market down here.

  6. I think it is just so tough to get a contract that you take what you can get, and not many have a choice of company or country. Reports are that it has been even tougher this year, with fewer contracts than usual around. Sadly doesn't look like it has been 100% employment record this year either.

Any news on other schools? I believe it was the ENBS graduate performance yesterday and it is usually printed in their programme.

Graduate destinations not printed in the programme

  7. I didn't go this year. How do you think that it compared to last year, Kat09? Personally, last year I felt that there should have been a greater emphasis on classical pieces.

I thought that there was a better mix of genre this year Aileen and the graduating 3rd years were allowed to shine in both classical and contemporary pieces Arctic/Shaker Loops and Raymonda Grand Pas Classique Act 3 - overall a very enjoyable evening with lots of talent on show from all years. The 1st year men are particularly strong and a joy to watch.

  8. It is interesting to hear the view that young footballers might benefit from Brexit. However, there won't be more jobs available for young British dancers as long as dancers remain on the UK Labour Shortage list. Vacancies that might have been filled by EU dancers will simply be replaced by international dancers, so the British will continue to be disadvantaged - with the additional difficulty of not being able to apply for jobs in those useful Eastern European companies who have taken many young dancers in recent years. The argument that Brits can go to Australia, for example, doesn't really wash as Australia sends many of its best dancers here to train and work. In any event many would prefer not to be exiled the other side of the world when they could be dancing with people on their doorstep who share a Western European dance heritage

Unfortunately Brits can only go to Australia if sponsored with an Arts and entertainment VISA unless lucky enough to have familial ties :(

  9. My daughter started vocational training at 16, of the 6 UK girls in her year group 4 were non vocational before US. (this is a london based school) 1 of these has chosen to leave and the remainder have progressed to the final year of training. 16 is definitely not too late if you have good local schools and associate schemes.

  10. Does anyone have experience of Grand Audition 2016? The website quotes that contracts were offered but doesn't expand on which companies/establishments. It was one day this year, 2 days next year. It is quite an expensive exercise (obviously cheaper than travelling to separate auditions) but I think we are a captive market - I would like to see the hard and fast data before parting with over €600 when flights and hotels are factored in. Interested in others thoughts ...
