  1. I am sure you are right. At the BW audition the principal made me a cup of coffee while  dd was warming up. Somehow I cannot imagine that happening at any other vocational school. Simply lovely people. Now I had better leave this thread to the Rambert folks.

3rd year at Voc school - I have never been made a cup of coffee - BW sounds lovely , good luck to your daughter :)

  2. Have you looked at RAD BA (Honours) Ballet Education? 3 year programme to teach - entry requirements - All three of these requirements must be met:

    • Three GCE A Level passes (Grades B, B, C) or equivalent.
    • RAD Intermediate or equivalent standard in ballet.
    • English Language Proficiency test required for applicants whose first language is not English.

    more info at RAD.org.uk

PS. definitely worth trying at Rambert - if you don't try , you won't know - good luck :)

  3. I am told that the DaDa guidelines stipulate that to qualify for funding the dancers have to attend an audition altogether. If some have been offered places prior to the final auditions then they must be self funding.

Many of these early places are given full scholarships from the "pot of benevolence " ;)

  4. Biscuit 11 February results are out from ENB- so far as I know both yes and no results so I would get in touch if I were you. Good luck.

Anyone know numbers at finals for ENB last year and how many places?

From memory around 30 -35 at  (girls) finals and approx 30 places ,split between boys and girls - good luck

  5. As everyone's path through life is different, I am a firm believer that the opportunities that present themselves to the individual are the correct Ones for their journey. As one door closes, another door opens. Don't mourn what is not meant to be but joyfully embrace what presents itself. Our culture seems to be so hung up on success or failure as defined by someone else - I love the approach that nothing is a failure but a step closer to success. Your own individual success. Have a dream, follow that dream but be open to the fact there will be kinks in the road and those kinks are taking you to where you are meant to be.

Thank you for writing this Harwel .... it's just what I needed to read as one door is slammed shut .... looking forward to the next open door :)

  6. Seems odd that it's in September, hardly gives people returning back to school at the beginning of September a chance?!

It was the same when it was held in London ... it did seem to disadvantage those from the Western Hemisphere in terms of intensive preparation . My advice if you are considering competing is to get as much performance experience as possible. In certain countries competitions are the norm from an early age and the confidence this gives shines through.

  7. Lilac from what I have heard from others, Rambert values creativity and choreographic skills in dancers above everything else. I have also heard that not everyone who applies is necessarily offered an audition. So you have already passed the first hurdle. I would be surprised if experience in pointe work was a deal breaker - neither Elmhurst preliminary nor the Ballet West audition included any pointe work at all.

For a £50 application fee I would hope that all are offered an audition

  8. UPDATE Pride comes before a fall...I did not check the link (rather the address) of the website, so I was wrong about the original theatre website.(which referred back to the wikipedia)

Of course the original choreography was by Petipa & Petipa...the naming of the ballet is originally referenced as Satanilla rather than Satanella due to the translation of the cyrillic alphabet.

always thankful for knowledge shared by those more learned than myself - thank you
