  1. Each council does it slightly differently but I have to have a face to face interview plus attend Z training course once every 3 years.
  2. Fabulous. You're a better person than I am. Enjoy your night!
  3. I'd open it. After all its not addressed to the child. You could always say you thought it was a circular.
  4. It might be because we run a business from home but dh and I open each others post. The only post we don't open is if it is addressed to a child directly. Often we don't even look at the front if the envelope but turn them all over Makes stuff like this easier. Good luck to those waiting.
  5. She's just got into a production of Peter Pan where almost 300 children turned up and I thought she danced really well - I was chaperoning (MT is her strength) so has got done of her confidence back.
  6. That really reassures me as dd was worried that all the other children of her age were at a higher grade. It has put her off applying for things. Her teacher only put children in for exams every 18 months- 2 years focusing on the exam excercises in the couple of terms running up to the exam.
  7. There is still another first round of auditions next week so plenty of time yet.
  8. If you are currently only studying ballet but are interested in dance as a career I would probably look into taking more classes in different styles or doong extra non syllabus ckasses rather than focusing on comps. A few children do comps at dd's school but we avoid them.
  9. Am feeling a few pangs reading this as dd would have liked to audition but she's not a strong enough dancer but shed have no problems with the singing- ironic I guess.
  10. Good luck. If its where I think it might be they have good accompanists there
  11. Yes he does teach at a vocational school.ge used to teach for several post 16 Musicsl theatre colleges. He plays for upper school auditions but not lower school so far. D flat major wow. Nice key! Dh is a fab sight reader. The only thing that nearly defeated him was when he was helping someone prepare for an audition for Charlie and the choc factory. That music was wonderful but a pig to play!!!
  12. How old is your dd? I have to say it wouldn't be my first choice for an audition song. On my phone so trying to search key/vocal range There is a very good company that will make a rehearsal track from sheet music for those previously used to using backing tracks. Will find out details for you.
  13. Don't bank on accompanists being able to transpose at sight. Dh can do it but its a difficult skill.
  14. What is the song and where are you ordering it from? We have an extensive collection if musical theatre sheet music so I may be able to look it up for you.
  15. Very relieved for you. According to twitter the girl who used to go to dd's school has not had her letter yet. I had to remove her and various other children/school related people from my Facebook for security reasons a whole ago so now I only get to hear 2nd hand how she is doing. Fingers crossed for her too please.
  16. I'm not surprised. The licsl authority can close down a show if they find in chaperoned children wandering about backstage.
  17. That's a bit concerning. No one under 16 should be unaccompanied at all. They should be chaperoned to and from the stage and the chaperones should stay in the rings whilst they are on stage.
  18. My dd's ambitions lie in Musical theatre. She does modern & tap alongside ballet. Modern is excellent for her technique. She also does non syllabus jazz at Stagecoach which seems to help with picking up different styles and picking up dances quickly at auditions.
  19. However in Musicsl theatre it is common to have to attend vocal warm up an hour before curtain up.
  20. The half in shows dd has been involved in has been 35 mins before curtain up when everyone is expected to be in the theatre.
  21. Gcse's are a two year course and as different school offer different syllabuses or options within the same syllabus transferring in the middle if the course is virtually tantamount to a fail - and that's without the complication of transferring controlled assessment/coursework marks. It would be much more sensible to try for 6th form.
  22. To my mind the advantage of going recognised syllabus exams us that you have sine sort of guarantee that the teacher us qualified & knows what they are doing and that the syllabus has been put together by experts to ensure children are covering the appropriate technique at an appropriate stage in their dance education. Of course there will be talented teachers who devise their own syllabus but equally there will be many who do not. One common problem I hear of on us based dance forums is children put into advanced classes who are Anything but and when they come to change school are surprised to find they are little more than beginners. Of course even within the syllabus/exam system there are bound to be schools of varying quality if teaching.
  23. The best parent done buns I've seen at dd's school is a girl whose dad does her hair. He's brilliant at it- she always looks pristine.
  24. Dd's modern & tap teacher does French pleats for exams as buns get in the way during floor excercises and they look neater than just normal ponytails. I can't do them at all. My bun attempts are passable - just. Because dd's ballet class is straight from school ( some finish school at 4pm and class is 4.15pm her teacher doesn't mind as long as you've made an attempt.
