  1. Poor thing. My dd's school obviously organises things differently as they don't have any special exam sessions except for the one mock exam I mentioned where parents can watch It's also common to miss exams. Dd missed her primary simply because we transferred from another school and time tabling meant she had to straight to grade 1 Will your dd know all the work before you go? If so she might be a bit rusty but should be fine. Did the teacher not say that's when the exams would be. I'd let your dd decide what she would like to do.
  2. Oh I know - speaking from experience as someone who pulled her dd from a piano exam already paid for as it became clear she wasn't ready (another too many panto performances combined with school trip = missed lessons)
  3. I think actually what we would do in this situation now I've thought about it is skip the exam and just go up to the next grade as she's obviously technically ready.
  4. Sorry can I get this straight. Are you on holiday for the whole 4 weeks before the exam do she will miss her classes just prior or is there an exam practice 4 weeks before with the pianist she will miss. I know children at dd's school who couldn't make exam practice (her teacher runs it like a mock exam with the children in the group of 3 or 4 they will perform with on the day). However they have a pianist every lesson. Exam practice is always the Sunday before the exam do usually just a couple if days beforehan If she's going to miss all 4 normsl lessons before the exam then is say delay it.
  5. As a complete Musicsl theatre nut I'm very disappointed with this years coverage My husband is having fun spotting ex students in the various casts though.
  6. It's on the school website. Shop closed after 50 years trading and school working to find another supplier.
  7. Hope the students singing at the vice principals funeral give him a good send off. Only met him briefly at an open day but apparently he was a much liked and respected member of staff.
  8. They take about 18 months to 2 years between all graded exams at dd's ballet school. Usually they have two exam sessions per year but only those who are ready are entered. Dd did her Grade 2 in Autumn 2011 and will do her Grade 3 next term (they have had to learn the new syllabus though as the Spring 2012 children were the last ones who did the old I think)
  9. I'm rubbish at hair so for class we just do the best we can Dd's teacher allows children with fringes who struggle to fetcher back to keep them for exams and shows. Dd used to have a bob with a fringe and it really suited her but chose to grow her fringe out. She now has slightly longer hair.
  10. Incidentally last year when dd did her piano exam at school in June w had to wait until school went back in September to get the result.
  11. My children go to an independent school and somewhere in the terms are the fact that results can be with held if fees are unpaid. Has the school actually received their results. Maybe there is a query. This happened to me a few years ago with LAMDA exams. There was a discrepancy at Manchester centre and some results were withheld for several weeks.
  12. It might be due to staff availability. We always go on holiday at the end of August
  13. Is it OK to start a new thread as the old one is mostly about auditions/waiting lists etc for the elite ballet summer schools. Dd is going to the Hammond summer school again this year. She enjoyed it last year and this year wants to stay rather than commute. She is 11. Where are other children going. Dd has a couple if friends who do Sylvia Young.
  14. Congratulations to her. Definitely time for a name change.
  15. One word of caution when looking for lesser known shows. Don't choose anything with a hellish piano accompaniment.
  16. With the best will in the world I don't think you can teach sight singing in a one off workshop. It is a skill that us aquired over time alongside a knowledge of music theory. There would be too wide a range of previous experience for a start from someone who plays sn instrument to someone who has no idea what any of the intervals are
  17. Katy can I recommend a boom - it is aimed at graduates auditioning for jobs but it gives examples of different mysicsl theatre rep - by the end of their course dh expects his students to have a rep folder. It's by Gillyanne Kayes & Jeremy Fisher called successful singing auditions.
  18. It would be aimed at those auditioning for 6th form/degree/diploma so would be no younger than year 10.
  19. And thank you to everyone who has replied. Further comments are welcome. You are never ever going to please everyone with regards to times/venues etched but it gives an idea of what people are looking for.
  20. Sundays look like a good option. I agree about the marketing - it's not his strong point business & marketing! What's given us the idea is another panicked email (this time from dd's dance teacher) that one if her 16 year olds has a last minute audition for one of the schools where he teaches in 2 weeks time and is panicking about the singibg
