Diplomas 2024 age 16. NBS , Hammond, Stella Mann

Hi there 

 

I've posted few discussions since Jan on this long audition process.

 

My dd auditioned for diploma dance l6 

 

The Hammond - offer dada reserve list. Booked tramways incase dada offered.

 

Stella man- offer & dada offer - fantastic audition but lack of halls for 16 year olds has put us off.

 

NBS - offer & dada offer , going to booked new medlock this week. 

 

Italia Conti - got through video audition - couldn't make in person audition - so unless last min one in June this is off table due to clashes.

 

NDC - offer BTec no accomidation suitable so no go for us but fab college in North East.

 

Her front 2 are Hammond & NBS 

 

Obs NBS have dada and currently don't from Hammond.

 

Just wondering pros cons off both places (hammond , NBS) As I know they are similar etc. Both are train travel ok and I wanted some constructive feed back 

 

Anyone know what NBS branded uniform is this coming year? I can only see the Leo styles needed .

 

NbS also say soft blocks as well as points ? Are these used needed ?

DD is going to NBS and booked into new medlock, on the uniform list that came with the offer pack there’s no mention of soft blocks? Just canvas flats, pointes, jazz shoes, tap shoes and character shoes. Leotards are from dansez and skirts from ballet skirts by Lucinda. It says there’s new tracksuits for this year and we’ll be emailed about these separately.

Just wanted to say....... They will love NBS. My DD graduates this year & the transformation is incredible from year 1 to 3.  I wish you & your dds/ds luck on your journeys!

Both colleges have very good reputations. My DD chose The Hammond and is very happy there. When she was weighing up her decision her she thought a lot about the different locations (big city, small city), the range of teaching staff, the facilities and any "extras" e.g. she's doing the full DDE, all modules, on top of her diploma. 

 

It might also be worth trawling through the latest round of Ofsted reports. I'm not a big fan of Ofsted but all the DADA performing arts colleges are currently being inspected for the first time since 2015/2016 so it's another piece of info to put in the mix.

One of the main differences is that at Hammond you’d be part of a bigger school/college community with students from year 7 up to degree students doing musical theatre. 

Hammond and NBS also have different electives available on the dance diploma. At Hammond there’s a choice of doing either a choreography or a performance elective (singing and acting) but apart from this all the dance students do all the same amount of classes in every genre. Classes are streamed by ability in ballet, jazz and tap. There is optional Rad up to Solo seal level for those more ballet-focused.

 

At NBS from the second year I believe students are placed in either jazz or ballet streams. They still study all genres, but have more classes in their chosen specialism.

 

From what I’ve seen, both schools are very proactive in getting kids industry-ready.
