Here Isabella Gasparini writes (in 2020) about what her promotion to Soloist meant in terms of roles and workload: https://www.isabellagasparini.com/post/from-corps-de-ballet-to-principal-dancer

I had not read that before so thank you @Mona for sharing it.

It was so well written, so personal and informative  - Isabella Gasparini is a lovely ballerina and I have always enjoyed her performances. She deserves every success.

I've had another thought on the mid-season timing: could it be because Tomas Mock retired in December, thereby leaving a vacancy at Soloist level?

I think Dawnstar is probably right.  Tomas Mock leaving, gives Kevin O'Hare room on his payroll budget to make a promotion.  In most businesses, understanding the financial situation, explains a lot of the decision making.  As was said elsewhere "Follow the money".

I am sorry that Tomas Mock is leaving.  I enjoyed his performances & a dancer doing a Maths BSc is a welcome addition to the diversity of RB..

Are departures not announced as well as promotions?
