Ballet Association News
On Moday 8th January, we were hoping to hear Sae Maeda and Harris Bell as our speakers, but owing to a combination of a late 'Manon' stage call, and a tube strike, we have had to postpone this talk until a future date. As soon as we know when this date will be, we will of course, let everyone know. We can look forward to an extremely interesting talk, when it does ultimately happen.
Silke H
What a pity. Looking forward to this talk at a later date nonetheless. Thanks for the early heads-up of the change
alison
That's a shame - I was looking forward to that. But actually it's an incredibly busy week for me (I believe there's a London Ballet Circle event on the 9th?), so I won't be sorry if it's rescheduled. Hopefully the other January one, with Stuart Cassidy and certain RBS students, will still be going ahead as scheduled ...

alison
I realised this morning that - how time flies! - those people who've only started watching the Royal Ballet since the House reopened back at the turn of the century will probably have no idea who Stuart Cassidy is, as he appears to have been out of the country for most of the last couple of decades. He was a stalwart of the Royal Ballet - partnering Darcey Bussell, among others - and later was one of the three male principals who, when the Royal Ballet's very existence was under threat during the closure period, left to found K Ballet in Japan (headed by Tetsuya Kumakawa ["K"], along with William Trevitt, Michael Nunn, Gary Avis and others), so there ought to be a lot to catch up on. (A bit of history: Trevitt and Nunn, little knowing what they were going to get into, had actually been filming a fly-on-the-wall documentary for Channel 4 about the Royal Ballet when it was homeless during the ROH closure, I think called "BalletBoyz" - might be available on YouTube for all I know - so the formation of K Ballet featured as well. They eventually split from K Ballet and returned to the UK, forming a small dance troupe called George Piper Dances, which was very successful and also became known under the name "BalletBoyz". As they moved into retirement from dancing, they formed a separate male dance company, "BalletBoyz", which has thrived, and they have also continued filming dance and I think other things, particularly notably the Royal Ballet's "Romeo & Juliet Without Words". And all this started with them wandering down Bow Street with a film camera and interviewing a group of ballet fans, just pre-closure! Little did we know ...) 5
Ballet Association News
Giving this a 'bump up,' as it's tomorrow evening. Agree time has certainly flown! Stuart Cassidy also came back for that 1 guest appearance in 'Coppelia' with Marianela Nunez after the house had re opened, and she needed a Franz. It will be fascinating to hear all about it, and catch up with what he has been up to over the years, as well as hearing from the students tomorrow evening. We really look forward to what should be a fabulous evening.
