Sabine0308 Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 (edited) Recently I learned about a competition in Belgium. What: Prix des Hivernales Where: City of Lièges When: 17 -19 March, 2023 It's actually not new, being now in it's 11th edition. In previous years they had an impressive cast as jury and performers at the gala (among them Lauren Cuthberson, Steven McRae, Mathieu Ganio, Polina Semionova, Friedemann Vogel, Sebastian Klobborg, Maria Kotchetkova). Many of them returned year after year, so this seems to be a charming event. This year is no exemption and has the following impressive Jury (and performers):Chloé Albaret, Freelance, Netherlands Thomas Docquir, Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris Anne Jung, Freelance Soloist Toon Lobach, Freelance Soloist Inès Mcintosh, Paris Opera Ballet Ludmila Pagliero, Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris Iana Salenko, Staatsballett Berlin Shale Wagman, Bayerisches Staatsballett Samuel Young-Wright Freelance SoloistTo be confirmed: Xander Parish, Norway National Ballet Rosario Guerra and Louis Steinmetz, Ballet Hannover Their website is a bit confusing, and nothing is said about the gala program so far, but they told me the gala will be held twice, March 17 and 19 (Friday and Sunday). Tickets are already available. Here is the link:https://www.prixdeshivernales.be/en/ And info on dancers and booking is here:https://www.leshivernales.be/en/ Edited February 10, 2023 by Sabine0308 1 2

Bruce Wall Posted March 18, 2023 Posted March 18, 2023 (edited) What a great programme - and so exciting to see the two outings for the brilliant Mr. Wagman. I'm so looking forward to seeing him in the new Ratmansky in Munich in May. Isn't Thomas Docquir now an Etoile? Edited March 18, 2023 by Bruce Wall 1
Sophoife Posted March 18, 2023 Posted March 18, 2023 No, Thomas Docquir is not the sujet promoted étoile. That was Guillaume Diop 😉 Docquir is certainly considered a future étoile. 2
Sabine0308 Posted March 18, 2023 Author Posted March 18, 2023 I'm pretty sad that I couldn't go to Liege. But with a sprained ankle, a splinted foot, I cannot walk properly and have to be careful. Bad timing. 😭 1
FionaM Posted March 18, 2023 Posted March 18, 2023 Super programme of established and upcoming stars 👏👏👏 2

He and Iana Salenko set the stage on fire with the Flames of Paris, woah!! https://instagram.com/shalewagman?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= 2
Amelie-DALP Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 In fact, Thomas Docquir is a very talented young dancer. But it's more his partner Ines McIntosh who is considered a future Étoile :). 1
alison Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 Thank you for that information, Amelie-DALP, and welcome to the forum! Insight about the POB is always welcome
Amelie-DALP Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Thank you for this warm welcome I hope to read a review of this gala. Especially the performance of Shale Wagman. I have been following since his Prix de Lausanne in 2018. 2

Especially the performance of Shale Wagman. I have been following since his Prix de Lausanne in 2018. Amelie, welcome to the club of "Shalsters"! 😀 I too hope for a review and official pictures. I saw a lot of Video clips of his performance with Iana Salenko, doing the "Flames of Paris" PDD, and was, as always, impressed by all his cabrioles, fast turns, soft and long manege jumps and crazy 540ers. And Iana's fouettes were amazing. They looked good together, although they met for the first time for rehearsals on Friday only (first gala day). It was fun to see them at curtain call too and during jury work, there was good chemistry between them, me thinks. There were only 2 very short clips of the "Dying Swans" piece by Juliano Nunes with Toon Lobach. I can’t really say if it worked, I hope to see it some day, hopefully with Shale and Derek Dunn, the "original" Swans. (The video from Orsolina is just so so beautiful.) The Les Hivernales website seems to be a bit lame with Updates (my guess is due to lack of people). You can check out Shale's Instagram Story (saved as Belgium), but due to ig restrictions, the clips are very short and not in original size. Edited March 21, 2023 by Sabine0308 1
Sabine0308 Posted March 23, 2023 Author Posted March 23, 2023 I have been asked by the Prix/gala team to make a slight correction about this competition and gala: "Just want to correct a little misunderstanding I’ve read. The Gala “Les Hivernales de la Danse” is indeed at its 11th edition. But for the contest “Prix des Hivernales”, it was the second edition ! Could you please correct this little part?" What I do here with pleasure!❤️ 3
