Michelle_Richer Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 I thought it would be worthwhile starting a separate thread on Adult Ballet Summer Schools and Weekend Ballet workshops to raise its profile, rather than having it buried in another loosely related thread. The information I have listed below is either by telephone conversation or email, in the case of email it is generally only the pertinent information which appears in the extracts I’ve displayed. Chelsea Ballet I have had two replies this afternoon from them (Louise Hudson), I’m really impressed by that. They are still trying to confirm a venue for August 2013, accommodation you have to arrange yourself. She is going to contact me as soon as the venue is confirmed. The Place London The 2013 info has not been finalised as yet, contact details are: The Place ,17 Duke's Road ,London WC1H 9PY http://www.theplace.org.uk I have had a telephone conversation with them today, what they did say was, it was likely that they will be running 3 one week summer schools in August, each weeks tuition being provided by a separate ballet company. The cost is dependant upon the number of classes you take during the week. The basic cost is £60 per class per week, each class lasts for one and a half hours between 10am and 7.30pm with the usual breaks London Amateur Ballet We are just in the process of firming up dates and venues for London Amateur Ballet Summer Intensives. Full details should be forthcoming within the next 2 weeks and I will make sure that you are on the mailing list for that information. It is possible that there may also be some weekend repertoire workshops in the Spring of next year and I'm keen to try and bring these out of London, perhaps one in the North-East might be something for us to look into... Contact Details: Tom Linecar-Boulton admin@londonamateurballet.com www.londonamateurballet.com Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. We have a number of summer schools for adults scheduled for 2013, but unfortunately the only ballet one is our Modern Ballet Summer School which is intended for full time vocational students age 15+. I have attached our Summer School portfolio for your information, and you may be interested in our various ballet and dance summer schools for young people. Our Short Courses Programme is constantly developing, and we have only recently introduced weekly RAD Syllabus classes for young people and adults. If you feel there is a gap in the market or know that a number of adult learners would be interested in a summer school then please let me know and I can flag this up in future development meetings. As you will see from our portfolio, we run numerous specialist study weekends, weekly classes and summer schools for adults, so I cannot see there being a problem in introducing one for dance or ballet. I can give you some idea of the tentative dates, tuition and classes we offer. Our Adult Summer Dance program takes place in our studio in Newton, Massachusetts.Tentative dates right now are July 29th -August 9th. It is a program for adult dancers looking for more of a guided curriculum than a drop-in class. Last year we offered several classes including a strengthening and stretching class, technique classes at Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced levels, Pilates, Jazz and Repertoire. Adult students can choose to attend either one week or both weeks of the program, and can choose either a 2 or 3 class package (meaning either 2 or 3 classes each evening). Prices vary on the amount of weeks and the amount of classes selected. The program runs Monday through Friday and classes are in the evenings. We will have registration and more information available on our website at www.bostonballet.org /school as we finalize our summer programs.
Fiz Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 I might be interested in the Dukes Road one if we manage to chip away at the debt we are in. Having to buy a "new" (second hand) car in the summer did not help us one bit
Michelle_Richer Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 (edited) Hi Fiz,: Sorry about your car. Are you within commuting distance of that one? I know there are no details on the classes yet, but how many of the daily classes do you think you will attend. For me it’s likely to be a full day of at least 4 if not five, dependant upon there content and what practice facilities exist on site if you are not in class. Also for me, I will have to stay in a hotel; it will need to have a gym as an area to practice in. I’m a bit of an exhibitionist anyway, so I don’t mind doing ballet in a gym with guys working out on various machines, I guess it will keep a smile on my face. DavidW Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Other ones to consider (off the top of my head): RAD do (multiple, I think) summer courses for adults at their HQ in London and there is a residential course in the US called "Sun King" that I've heard of people doing. I went to Ballet Cymru this summer to take part in one of their summer courses. Although aimed for teenage dancers there was myself (25) and a slightly older woman on the course. It was great to get some intensive training (especially the male technique classes with the pre-pro/company guys) and culminated in a performance on the Saturday. Very reasonably priced too! 2
Fiz Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 I live near Stevenage so I can come into London quite easily but at the moment I will have to think carefully if I can afford to go.
Michelle_Richer Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 Hi David I have emailed both RAD and “Sun King” but have not had a reply yet, I’m finding that quite a lot, I guess I will have to give RAD a call, I think the big problem is, it’s a bit early for next years summer school classes as things are not yet finalised. It’s unlike the classes and dance workshops I’m used to (Salsa), as they start to get booked up on the last day of the previous year’s course, so dates are already fixed. But then we are talking serious numbers of dancers at about 500. I have a 3 day salsa workshop at the end of December; I guess it will have similar numbers. I will try Ballet Cymru, that’s a new one for me. Thank you again David, all new adult summer schools are added to the list for everyone.

Jan McNulty Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 There is a small feature about Isabel McMeekan's Everybody Ballet in the month's Dancing Times that may be of interest. Here's a link to the EB website: http://www.everybodyballet.com/
