Anthea Bell, translator of Astérix

The death was announced yesterday of the superb literary translator Anthea Bell.  She will be best known to most - along with Derek Hockridge - as the translator of the Astérix books: it is often said that the English versions are even better, and funnier, than the originals.

How very sad! We had the French originals at my senior school to push us with our French but I managed to find the translations for my younger brother and we both quote bits of them to one another if we are feeling particularly silly. R.I.P and thank you.
