Congratulations!!! She must be thrilled . That's wonderful news. Better start selling the car, furniture etc.......
  4. Hi Stressedmum, yes this journey is pretty wild - but we're trying to keep positive. Honestly, it is nothing short of a miracle that everything has fallen into place for us. My dh's job, dd's ballet school placement, selling our farm etc etc, so we're trusting that it will continue to work out when we travel. It is a little disturbing that no-one else seems to have accepted without the condition of accreditation. I hope they don't have any ideas of cancelling the course........ Hope to meet you and your dd in September.
  5. Very exciting Jazzpaws!
  6. I look forward to meeting him and watching him dance This is so amazing, moving to the other side of the world and 'knowing' people. We lived in London for a year when we were first married - no internet back then. I remember arriving in a city with the population of the entire continent of Australia, and I didn't know a soul. Its very different this time
  7. My dd was on the waiting list for Central and has been offered a place. We've turned it down and she is going to BTUK. She's really happy about BTUK which is good because we would have had to turn Central down due to the fees, (plus cost of living in London) as you know, there are no reductions for O/S students. So - there is another place for someone at Central
  8. Thanks everyone . Grain mill goes 'in'.
  9. Aahh, thank you. I thought there would be a way, just wanted to check before using up extremely limited space
  10. thanks Alison. We are moving to Hinckley (or nearby). Our dd is starting at BTUK school and my dh will be working in Birmingham.
  11. Hi folks, I know this may be a strange question, but is it easy to buy whole grains? We are moving to the UK in July (!!) and can only bring a very few items from home. We have a grain mill which we use several times a day to grind wheat, rice etc to make bread and other baked goods. I'm currently part of an organic food co-op and we buy our grain in bulk from a relatively close mill. Is it easy to buy such things from the local health food store or farmer's market? I really want to ship the grain mill over, but thought if it I can't get the grains it won't be worth it. Thanks in advance
  12. Not sure. I haven't heard of anyone from Australia being accepted yet. I did hear of one called back after the first audition, don't know if she gained a place. My dd did not get a place and we applied via dvd.
  13. Hi SBallerina, we are in Australia too - just about to move to the UK. I doubt it would be worthwhile applying for ABS at this age and as others have said, the opportunities for work here are slim. Also, the Australian Ballet company does a lot of contemporary work, even their ballet productions are often very new choreography. That isn't a criticism, I just noticed that you seem keen on a very classical route. My dd is also focussed on classical so has never aspired to the AB. Best wishes

Would it be out of place to phone and explain the situation? Or do you think they are aware since it is probably the same each year?

    Central finals

Thank you everyone for your help on trains. We won't be living a long way and having dd commute daily for class. I was just thinking about needing to get to London for various things (like hopefully seeing RB performances once in a while). We lived in London for a year when we first were married. I remember the long winter commutes from zone 4, don't really feel like doing all that again. I think the best option is to go for BTUK where the rent is much more affordable. DH should be able to work in Birmingham (I really wish they would confirm it) so he and dd can catch trains in opposite directions.

We are looking into options. London just looks too expensive to live. We don't really want to be commuting too far - had enough of that where we are as it is 2 1/2 - 3 hour return trip to ballet. We're hoping to be a lot closer. The train fares seem to be expensive too! About GBP 35 from Hinckley to London, return. Wow! How do you guys get around? Is there a cheaper way - or do you refrain from travelling often?

    Central finals

Wow! - MIAS, best wishes to your dd. You're in a position none of us would like to be in. I feel for you. Hoping that she finds a new passion in life and is able to look back in years to come with fondness at her dancing years.

Jazzpaws - we are celebrating with you on the other side of the world! Congratulations to your dd. You must be feeling such elation and relief!!! Sorry MIAS - I hope your dd has a place somewhere else. No news here from Central, we applied via dvd and dd went through to the finals.
