There has been so, so much to enjoy from so, so many sources for which one is keenly appreciative.

If I had to take JUST ONE from this period it would be the NYCB out-take, Paw de Deux.  It was filled with very special guest artists (guest artists being something that NYCB do very rarely) and was I thought inspired in terms of its imagination.  The fact that it made me smile during these challenging times was a considerable boon.

Just watched Paw de Deux, Thanks Bruce.  While a cat might not feel so cooperative in dancing with a human pretending to be a cat, a self-respecting cat would undoubtedly accept being Apollo, who is, after all, a god. 😺

  2. I have seen this production of Faust many times, and particularly remember the first one. The Royal Ballet lent them Eric Underwood for the lead dance role, and he wowed the opera audience, a superb performance. This setting of the ballet IMO works well in the context of this opera production, not to be considered as a standalone ballet interpretation of the music.

  3. As far as the duel is concerned, and after way back when on first viewing I too wondered about ladies present and no seconds, I've provided myself with a side story. The girls have waylaid the protagonists on their way to the duel, then we see at the back of the stage just part of the field where the duel is taking place, the seconds are there too but to the side where we can't see them. 🙂

Not casting as such, but I've received an email advising that International Draft Works on 20 March will now start at 2.45 p.m. rather than 7.45 p.m.  I imagine quite a few people will be returning their tickets for refunds (and it's not selling that well at the moment either).

And if someone wants to switch to Thursday evening 7.45pm I'm selling one in the stalls. See Ticket Exchange section

One problem is the one I encountered yesterday while looking for the first night of Onegin: I clicked on the date in the calendar.  That done, I clicked on "see dates and times" or whatever it is. With the old system that would I think have taken me to all the performances, but now it just leaves me with the first two because the date filter hasn't been removed.

There is a box with your chosen date filter shown and an x to remove the date and get all.

Francesca Hayward was lovely, appearing in just about every scene. She has a really beautiful expressive face which added to her role. I was surprised that she sang, I am hoping it was indeed her.

Yes, it was indeed Francesca singing.

I took my son to see the stage show of Cats for his 10th birthday outing. He has just taken me to the film for a 75th birthday outing. We both enjoyed it.

Incidentally, does anyone know how (in reality) Lilac Fairy's vehicle moves so seamlessly around  the  ROH stage ? Are there a couple of stage hands hidden in the rear, pushing it along, for example?

I attended an insight with the props department when they were preparing this production, began in the Clore then moved up to their workshops. That large section at the back of the Lilac Fairy's vehicle (look away now if you don't want to know the answer) is

for a mobility scooter driven by an intrepid stage hand.

And when it was pointed out to us that Aurora's grown-up bed hangings were the same colour scheme as her cradle, (anyone noticed that?) I did wonder why she hadn't changed them.
