There are some stunning photos on Instagram on Fumi's and William's accounts. The photos were taken by dancersdiary and are actually from last night's performance, if anyone is interested.  I wasn't aware photos were usually taken at performances, so that's interesting......

Dancersdiary, at one time a dancer in the company, is an official photographer for the Royal Ballet and is often in the stalls circle standing area taking performance photos. He always explains to whoever he is standing by, is quiet and unobtrusive, and I've never found him distracting. His photographs are much appreciated.

  2. I have 3 grandchildren, with available choice being BRB's offerings at their local theatre.

For the eldest, it was any dance with classical type music.

The middle one, untouched by any of the standard fare, but a visit to ROH and a Wayne McGregor triple, yes!

The youngest, dance and drama and music, and at age 6 totally immersed in, gripped by, Romeo and Juliet, reenacted next day with her dolls. And, at a subsequent Fille mal Gardee, captivated by Alain and the love of his life, his red umbrella.

They are all different, ready for different things at different ages. You have to know the child, and even then they can still surprise you.

We must be looking at different things. I do not hold a ticket to get a refund I will be sitting in front of my computer testing the stream.

I had a ticket to attend the event. I have assumed that the event now having been cancelled that your streaming test will be cancelled, unless ROH is replacing it with something else for your test

I've just been sent an invite to test the new ROH Livestream feature on the ROH Stream channel - email contents pasted below.

Perhaps this is paving the way to being able to live stream performances from your TV, maybe replacing or in alongside the Cinema Relays?

As a subscriber of Royal Opera House Stream, I’d like to invite you to take part in a trial of our new livestreaming feature.

We will be livestreaming Insights: Photographing The Dante Project with Mary McCartney on 30 November 2023 at 7.30pm BST to invited audiences on Royal Opera House Stream. If you are selected to take part, you will be able to watch the performance free of charge on a laptop, desktop, tablet, mobile device, or using one of our TV apps. The performance will then be available to watch on the platform for 72 hours.

In return, I will send you a feedback form following the livestream that will ask about your experience and help our team make improvements. This should take no more than 15 minutes of your time. You will also be able to report any technical issues or share ideas for improvement in real-time on the Royal Opera House Stream website.

If you would like to participate, please fill out this brief form with your details (less than five minutes). We appreciate your help!

Except that this event has now been cancelled

You are correct. The left side is only showing a couple seats available.  A random sample is marked "unavailable". Also there are 14 price categories for that performance (and the 2 on 28 Oct) v. 9 for the others. ROH doing a live fire exercise?

The cameras are there for the Magri-Corales performances, so extra prices for camera restriction seats

Not sure if this is the best place for this or if it should be under cinema.

I thought I read somewhere ages ago when the new season was formally announced that all ROH programmes would be shown at the cinema which seemed a really good idea as some people will probably still be hesitant about travelling. However, when the cinema details were announced it was just the usual 6 performances (3 opera and 3 ballet). I wondered if this was the first cinema season and more performances will follow (I am especially concerned about the Ashton triple). I contacted customer services and they say that only the 6 performances named will be shown at the cinema which was a blow as I always take a couple of non-internet friends with me so even if it is streamed they wouldn't see it. The Customer Services Manager who replied said a decision hasn't been made as to whether or not the Ashton triple will be streamed and I need to 'watch this space'. As a performance on 29th April is scheduled for cameras I'm still hoping it will be streamed. I also can't see a new full-length Wheeldon ballet not being broadcast in some way and cameras are there 9th June. So if there are filming dates why not announce the format? I know it's a long time ahead but I'd feel better if I knew the Ashton at least was being recorded in some format.

I took it that the cinema and streaming ones so far announced are for the period one section of the season, other periods to follow later. At least that is what I have assumed, I hope correctly.

Interesting to note that Sky Arts appears to be managing to show the National Theatre's Romeo & Juliet at least 3 times this week (I gave up checking to see whether there were any more), yet never manages to repeat its dance performances - at least, not until the next time it puts them on at 7 am ...

The National Theatre has sent an email to its Friends about this. This is a premiere which has been specially filmed during lockdown, with the assistance of Sky Arts. I assume that's why it is getting these three showings
