  1. Definitely Laurretta @FionaE!

@Sabine0308 I saw the 2nd cast I think?  Here is a photo of the cast for the evening

I love Jewels.  I thought this was well danced, with beautiful set and costumes. I think Emeralds was probably the best  of all 3 for me, I felt Gouneo was not quite there in Rubies this time, last time I saw him he was on fire!  In Diamonds some of the corps de ballet work looked a little off line/untidy, BUT that could be because I am used to viewing Balanchine from above and for this performance I was seated in the Balcony right below the royal box.  The Diamonds principals, Baronova and MacKay, were making their debuts as well which was nice and they were very well received at the end. I have to say it was a treat to see Casalinho and the petite Margarita Fernandes in the Emeralds PD3 after having seen them at the Ballet Icons and Fernades also danced in Rubies.  She must be going places!  I really enjoyed the show and will definitely be going back to Munich in the future. Some curtian call photos:-

  2. I got the survey too but the prices were so ridiculous i said no to all of the  scenarios!  They are not on this planet.

Since covid I have seen much less ballet and I have to say it's better, as I appreciate what I do see more.  Just saw a lovely performance of Jewels in Munich, and for pretty much the same cost as a trip to London, only with a far superior seat for a lot less money....

  3. Oh yes Scheherezade totally agree with all you say!  Usually I find Makhateli and Simkin pretty sparkling but it lacked that sparkle last night and was rather underwhelming, it  definitely did not hit the note for me either.

some photos from the curtain call:-

The full line up with apologies to Reece Clarke who is just out of shot on the far right hand side!

Iana Salenko and Dmitry Zagrebin danced Don Q PDD and were wonderful - so good to see Salenko. Also in sot is Calvin Royal III and his pianist.

  4. Thoroughly enjoyed the show. For me the stand out pieces were Khaniukhova and Arrieta in Liam Scarlett's Chopin Romance which just beautiful and Borealis danced by Laccara and Golding. Hayward and Bracewell were gorgeous in MSN Dream too...hopefully this might mean some Ashton in 23/24?

My least favourite piece was Picone's Elevarsi followed by Carmen and Cinderella (am sure the POB dancers did that 1 or 2 shows ago) and Creature was spoiled for me by the music being far too loud (typical of Akram Khan note to self take earplugs). It was a joy to see Salenko again after a long gap and pleased to see she's still got it. The finale of Le Corsaire was lovely and I didn't realise at the time just how  young Fernandez and Cassalinho are!  All in all a great night out.

  5. Living up north, for example, as you well know fans have the added costs of (now horrendous) train fares, and a hotel, if no matinee is available. For the same money, or indeed less, I can fly to Amsterdam or Berlin, to name but 2 cities, and see top class ballet in a great seat for a much lower ticket price.  Since Avanti trains prices are wickedly high for terrible service, and ROH now pretty much overpriced for the seats I like, I have either stayed local or gone abroad and generally become a lot more choosy as well since covid lockdowns taught me to do without. Hey ho.

  6. The Passion for Fashion and Ballet Auction at Kerry Taylor in early December has a number of very interesting lots relating to Pavlova, Nureyev and Fonteyn and includes 3 Sleeping Beauty tutus, 2 of which were Dame Margot's.

It's worth a look at the online catalogue, items start on page 7. I'd love to have Margot's pink Princess Aurora tutu! image.png.6b6b27e0dc45ebe075d64d60f8a1a766.png

Performances of Nureyev Legend and Legacy will be hosted and introduced by former Director of The Royal Ballet Dame Monica Mason - who herself partnered Nureyev on a number of occasions - and Ralph Fiennes, the acclaimed actor and filmmaker who directed and acted in The White Crow, which tells the story of Nureyev’s defection from Russia to the West. On the opening night, this introduction will be live, with a filmed version screened at the performances that follow.

Thank you .. thought I replied yesterday but seems gremlins were at work. I think it's a bit of a swizz then if the hosts can't appear at all the shows. However, I have a feeling there may be ticket offers for this gala so might get to the Monday premiere yet.
