Yes exactly continuing the trauma these adults do not know how to regulate their own emotions correctly I really hope some ex dancers can speak out and help bring about some change

After watching the documentary it has confirmed my belief that these schools are not currently fit for the purpose of nurturing young children’s mental health. Imagine- the pressure day in day out for 5 + years. It takes a very special skill set to work with children and young people and to bring the best out in them. Just being an excellent ex ballet dancer doesn’t meant you are a brilliant teacher. if you teach and rule from fear, shame methods then you will not bring the out the best in the child. Their nervous system shuts down and they may comply but be so scared and it makes it more difficult to learn or be creative if other sports can produce elite level kids who live at home they why can’t ballet be the same ?

As a parent of a year 6 dancer I am so sad that this still goes on in some of the best ballet schools in the U.K. I feel like veering her away from ballet entirely after watching this can a child ever make it in ballet without being abused 🤦‍♀️

It’s so sad there are still teachers like this. Surely we can and should do better to recruit the best most motivational teachers? Old attitudes have no place. I am utterly sick of the poor excuses given. I’ve worked with children and young people and was extremely careful how I spoke to them. I really hope the documentary helps bring about real meaningful changes or that more people speak out. Reminds me of the whole gymnastics system being under scrutiny

I am wondering how often to children get into upper school with staying at home rather than vocational? im not 100% convinced that most the the vocational schools are the right emotional environment for younger ones. I know this will vary for each child and each school. any success stories of upper school applicants- girls

I’ve so far filled out an application form and awaiting response. I think the auditions are on the website in January mum sure they have to sing something too, but I’m not sure they have an open day 7th October

We went to the Hammond summer school and my dd loved it. Mr Dutton was the ballet teacher who I believed trained at royal upper one year 11 boy this year has gone onto study at enb

She is wanting to look at vocational but perhaps one that is fairly local to us. She currently does all genre of classes. Did your local school offer the 6 hours or did you have to go to an additional school or privates?

How many hours ballet does your child do per week? What is usual for this age range ? My daughter does 1 class and JA. But think this may not be enough?
