Thank you @MissEmily and @AllAboutTheJourney for the encouraging feedback, that's really helpful thank you! I agree the audition process was fun last year and we made it a day out too so was a nice experience. DD is always keen - it's just my nerves that can't usually cope! I think will maybe let her try again though... 🤞

Waiting for results is painful! For us!

  2. The girls always come out buzzing from the audition. My daughter got no first time (video application) and yes for year 5. She’s absolutely loving it. Make a fun day out of it, maybe visit the many dance shops around ( Dancia, Bloch, Pineapple) and of course the ROH shop.

  3. @RachHyour insight is appreciated as I’m sure many others mothers who have been told that classes would be held in both English and French were taken back when some classes weren’t. I would imagine it was a fabulous opportunity however pretty overwhelming for a young dancer as you say, maybe a more senior dancer would have got more from it with there being more options with classes

They will send information about all of this. Unfortunately every student had a phone. It's actually a problem in my opinion. My child said during breaks people were buried in phones instead of playing pick up games or talking. And phones were lightly regulated. They got phones during every break. Literally every morning, class break, after class, after dinner. All the time.

Thank you for your honesty. I will set up screen time then. Hopefully others will have limits on screen time so they can actually interact with one another during their free time

  5. Would anyone be able to tell me a bit more about NYB? Never heard of it before. So many things pop up for young dancers and I get very confused with all the names EYB LCB LJB etc etc! So National Youth Ballet, is it just a summer school? I’m guessing it’s a paid summer school? How does it compare with RB SI or Elmhurst Summer School?

  6. My daughter has started asking soooo many questions so I thought I’d ask as they come so not to overload the chat. Those parents that have had children at SI before might be able to help!

do they need a mobile phone?

if so, how is that regulated?

Dorms: how many per room? If the children know someone who is also boarding can you request for them to share a room?

how many leotards should they bring?

do they arrive on Sunday eve? Or is registration on Monday?

Is there a performance/demonstration for parents at the end of the week?

What sort of things do they do in their “free” time?

other than deers, are there any other animals that roam in Richmond park to observe? (Random one!)

  7. I had 1-1 with my daughters JA teacher who said that the team that deals with auditions are the same as the team that deal with summer school admissions. So I would assume they are bit busy with the finals etc my guess is we shall hear around the beginning of March.

Which exam(s) have you done @Thelittleswans and which ones would you like to aim for next?
I’m in a group of 4 but I’m the only adult. That doesn’t bother me though, I’m just happy to be doing it.

I took intermediate in December. Working on Adv Foundation however it will be a while until I take it, my pointe work isn’t strong. I was thinking of maybe looking at discovering repertoire possibly in the meantime. I also took my exam with teenagers and doesn’t both me either. I haven’t take the higher grades, I think the character work puts me off a bit.

Is anyone doing any exams this term? I’ve been entered for my grade 7. Very excited but also starting to worry a little!

How exciting. I really enjoyed the process of doing an exam as an adult. It was a completely new experience, I was so nervous yet really excited to perform the syllabus to an examiner. I have noticed that now I don’t have an exam looming, I’ve missed lots of classes due to life getting in the way and have felt less motivated to practice. Your post reminded me that I need to set myself a new challenge! Are you taking the exam alone?

  10. Anyone have any favourite finalists? I have really enjoyed watching 318 Soomin Kim, a past contestant from 2020. I was sad that 202 Henry Burgess didn’t make it through to finals. Looking forward to seeing 207 Millan De Benito.

Well done to all the finalists. I really looking forward to watching the live stream shortly

  11. Hi

just started catching up on live stream day 1. I absolutely love watching live stream. Husband, who knows nothing about ballet asked why is there no dancers from the UK selected this year?

I know this question has more than likely been debated before however I wondered if anyone would like to share their opinions here…

I recall, it was suggested that vocational schools in the UK don’t enter their students for Prix. Is this true?
