Good point Rowan. I asked a friend whose dd is at Elmhurst what this meant and she explained that it was the short tie up skirt mentioned above. She also said that it is on the kit lt for f/t students, but in her dd's experience, rarely worn. Not going to buy one specially.

I think it will be buns, pas de chat, but I know there will be lots of girls there who have had to do their own at voc school for at least the past year and I'm sure they will help anyone who needs it. It's surprising how quickly they become proficient at it too!

My dd has just called to say that she has been asked to model the school uniform for the yr 7s at some point today; she is taking it to school in her bag as she is dancing most of the day, so it maybe rather creased!! Hope all new students have a great day.

I have just bought some Easy2name iron on transfer type labels for socks and underwear. They are available in black a white and have ironed on easily. Waiting to see how they respond to use and washing, but anything will be better than this year's efforts. Have so far bought 15 pairs of school socks because they just seem to disappear!!

Don't remember seeing anyone in uniform last year- lots of jeans and casual stuff, I recall.

Unless they specify, and you are therefore going against their wishes, I honestly don't think it makes any difference. I personally hate seeing bruised, bare legs and much prefer to see girls in tights.

Will look out for the DVD! When dd went for final audition for yr 7 voc place, they were asked to do single pirouettes and then one of the panel threw in a casual, 'You can do doubles if you like!' So even though she hadn't before, dd decided to have a go and it worked! Maybe the man on the panel had watched the same DVD!!

Don't know about lunch in July, but I think there were older students than yr 7 at last year's induction (not post 16s)

Last year it was a full day with start time around 9- 9.30. Parents had a talk and students joined academic classes for the day. Parents were free to go about 11am with a chance for parents only to revisit the boarding house if desired. Parents returned for tea/coffee at about 3pm and staff were on hand to answer questions - very helpful as things had occurred to us during the day. Students finished the day (which dd thoroughly enjoyed) at about 3.30pm. We then did a dash to the uniform shop to get fitted! Hope you have a good day!

Sorry, did not get very far with dd this morning - her mind seems to be focused on singing exam! Purple unitard label says 'arabesque- 82% cotton' but that's all I can tell you at the moment! Hope you are able to sort it!

From what I remember the blue leotard had to be ordered and took ages to come, same as modern purple unitard. Will try to get numbers from dd when I speak to her this morning. Tap shoes are black Oxford low heel, not brand specific as are black footless tights and we used existing black spaghetti strap leotard for ages till the ordered one arrived.

Have heard the same - dd went for some new shoes and was tod by a teacher that they weren't coming back into school. The shop web site gives no indication- wonder what will happen with remaining MDS money for this year?

Hi Lemongirl, I took the pics myself with he help of dd's former teacher. I am a decidedly average photographer and printed them at home. They showed the 4 positions required but were by no means great pictures. I think that as long as they show the poses required, so that turnout etc can be seen, that's fine. You can download application form from web site and it shows you what pictures they want. Loulabelle, thank you, I have sent you a pm xx

Watched a lovely classical trio at a festival recently - The Fossil sisters.discover their talents. Aah- lovely memories of the book- think I may download for holiday reading!
