Thanks for the warm welcome. I thought similar in regards to activities - book, cards, board game, drawing book, rubiks cube. Lets hope they get to play together and get to know each other.

I'll be finding a spot in the park, if nice, to either do some marking from the first week back at school or read a book in peace and quiet for a few hours. It's a shame it is still lockdown or we could have all met each other and had a chat.

My son is excited but also a bit apprehensive as this is the first time he is doing anything like this. I've just said to be yourself and enjoy the lesson, then they will see your happiness shine through. I'm just hoping he does as his fake smile looks like he's in pain (you know the one, the school photo smile!) 😂

We're quite relaxed about it all as we hadn't really considered he would get this far.

As much as I would love them to be able to mingle... I can’t imagine them being allowed to sit close enough to each other to play cards etc sadly plus with masks on whilst they are waiting too they can’t even read each other’s facial expressions 😞. I hope I’m wrong but ....

Boys content was barre, tendu, plie, looking at facilities more than dance quality/ability

That’s a shame... so they do t care if the boy has musicality or not it can improvise? Strange associate teacher preps improve so much if it’s just about plié and barre work 🧐. I’ve been told by several other dance teacher friends that artistry is very important. They must have that “ something”

What did the 'second look' consist of? Another class or more physio stuff? xx

    From

how I understand it from ds associate teacher the 2nd look for girls was a call back on the 3rd day for those they were unsure of... the definite yes and no’s don’t get called back. Boys never needed call backs as so much fewer and varying standards. So much harder for girls for sure.
physio check is done once at the final audition xx

I think if they can and where they can it makes sense to put kids together from the same JA centres just so there are familiar faces on the day, but in some cases that won’t be possible and it is what it is. As long as they’re all going and have the opportunity to see the school and experience the audition, that’s the main thing!

Of course that’s the main thing. However I know a couple from same centre on different days. Maybe they’ve grouped them in some sort of order of preference? Who knows... and who cares 🤣

Would a full-time student at ELmhurst be allowed to do Royal Ballet School MAs? I know at YDA some pupils are London MAs, though it is a very different school, was wondering if some MAs are at full-time vocational schools...

No , they aren’t allowed. Elmhurst see it as their training should be enough which in fairness, it should be.

Tring I think let you do MA’s though

Reading this with fascination.... Boys at finals do at least have that assurance that they’re ‘very close’ to a successful outcome (if that’s the correct choice of words?) given that there are maybe 16 places on offer? They’ll have done exceptionally well to have come this far!

I wonder if all boys who got through to finals did come through the JA route?

I think there are 12-15 places ... but won’t take 15 if they don’t want them

Departure time is 6:20 - 6:30 then a long two hour drive home.

    so they have got them

crossing over then. Maybe your ds group dances first then our group arrives to dance when your group is in physio?  Haha I’m going to try and not spend the next two weeks working it out!!! 🤣

I think there are 4 groups of 7 ... as ds associate teacher said 28 boys went through to finals . So two groups in morning , two

    in afternoon xx

My DD was on the SWL for JAs last year and has made white lodge final. I fear it’s going to be so near yet so far again for her but she’ll do her best and I definitely think she’s improved a lot since last year x

Never give up hope... I’m sure I read on here a girl got a no for JA every year and ended up in White Lodge!!!
Your dd has done an amazing job to get this far.. and if it’s a “not yet“ use this as fuel to keep going , keep working and keep improving until the next time. If she wants it that much, she shouldn’t give up 😊xxx

Yes and also surely the ones that have been JAs previously would usually get first look in? X

They do.... at the White lodge audition. They are strongly encouraged to audition for WL even if they just want an MA place and not WL. The whole 3 years of JA is all geared towards training them for WL... 😅

Thank you. I was worried you might say that about the classes! I didn’t know whether they had a class for each year or not. So as you say there’s probably not a lot of year 7 spaces 😩 x

Unfortunately not, but they do a waiting list too. Some they offer MA’s to will decline and go to Elmhurst so that may free up some space too. It’s such a shame they are such small classes compared to junior associates

A bit of a change of subject but would anyone know how many spaces will be open on the Mid associate classes in year 7? Do all the JAs have to apply again or do they automatically carry on to the mids? My DD is not a JA, I’m wondering what the chances of her being offered mids is and whether there is only a few places or whether a whole new class opens up? Xx

From my understanding there are very few mids places available and also depends on which centre you are at. I think they put year7-year 9 together so each year it only opens up a handful at each centre. Usually those who got to WL finals but didn’t get selected are in the running first for Mids places .. that’s how I’ve always understood it .
