  1. Where to start! Nutcracker - Clara and Has Peter Pas de deux. Glorious music! So romantic. Swan Lake: Act 4 of before the Prince comes in looking for Odette and the bit when he is looking for her. Lump in throat moment! Onegin: Final Pas. Sleeping Beauty: The 2nd Act Hmm seeing a bit of a theme with the composer. Lol Romeo and Juliet (Macmillan version): Juliet's thinking scene before going to Friar Lawrence. Swirly Prokofiev Spartacus: All the Shepherds dancing to the Percussion accompaniment. Giselle (Mariniksy Version) Mythe's Bourees down the centre of the stage and Albrect's Brise's across the stage. Infra: Lauren Cuthbertson in all of it and The Pas with Melissa Hamilton and Eric Underwood.
  2. I would like to see En Sol by Robbins, Checkmate, Agon, Les Sylphides and Ashton's Cinderella included in the 2015/2016 season.
  3. I don't have a current dancer who does justice to The Queen of the Dryads but to me, nobody is better than Susan Jaffe in the 80's ABT Don Q video. She dances with such grace, elegance and poise and makes the Italian Fouttes seem effortless but I wish the RB would have put Amour in a tunic of some kind. She looks too similar to the Dryads.
  4. 1. Francesca Haywood in Rhapsody. 2. Melissa Hamilton in Gloria. 3. Meeting David Hallberg at Domodovo airport in Moscow. He was lovely and didn't mind me asking for his autograph and a selfie with him. 4. Seeing Nikulina and Kretova in La Bayadere at the Bolshoi. 5. Seeing Vadim Murgatriov and Sarah Lamb in Manon. Changed my opinion about Sarah Lamb as a dancer.
  5. I think it has gone too far in some cases. The hyper extension of some dancers makes some of the steps/lines look broken and not pleasing to the eye. For modern choreography it doesn't look out if place but for the classics it does and in turn loses some of its artistry. This might just be individual dancers I have seen but think The Marinsky is going that way. I understand that ballet/dance has to evolve but everything surrounding a ballet dancer, like nutrition, cross training etc has become no different to any top athlete and sports person. There seems to be loads of competitions. I had never even heard of YAGP until a couple of years ago when First Position came out. The only ballet competition I knew about was the Prix de Lausanne.
  6. It is tricky. I think it has worked better for Opera with the likes of 'Anna Nicole'.
  7. Just booked tickets to see Manon on Sunday 5 October with Lauren Cuthbertson and Vadim Muntagirov. Very excited!!
  8. I saw The Bolshoi in La Bayadere at the Bolshoi a couple of weeks ago and despite there being announcements in Russian and English there were at least 3 mobile phones that went off throughout the performance!! Makes me so angry when you have spent a lot on a ticket and in such beautiful surroundings. The Russian lady next to me was tutting away and glaring at the people behind us who decided to start to eat something and was very sparing with her applause! I thought the Bolshoi were on top form that evening. Nikulina, Kretova and Lobukhin's dancing was superb.
  9. New to posting here but have been lurking for a while. The first ballet I saw was Romeo and Juliet by the RB at the Bristol Hippodrome. I saw Viviana Durante and Bruce Samson. I was 8 years old so didn't really take a lot in of it but I was lucky to see a few years later at the same place, BRB in Romeo and Juliet with Marion Tait.
