  1. Does that mean there's a chance London results could be out before the end of this week when audition was only week before last?
  2. Congrats to Mumofpinks, dancing pickles, dancerdad and anyone else who's had good news so far. So excited for you all!! And agree that the philosophy of 'there's always next year' is great for those that haven't been as lucky this time round. Now I'm just trying not to let all the yes's on here skew my sense of reality for dd's results, which we're still waiting for!!!
  3. I was half thinking that too HappyMum. The results do seem to be coming out in a bit of a flurry now and as you say, they must know who they want pretty much straight away (although there must be some thinking to be done with the centres with more than one day of auditions?) Our philosophy is very much the same as yours with it all Lema. Dd's ballet teacher suggested she auditioned - I'd not even heard of the scheme before. We have been realistic about chances from the outset and have looked on the whole thing as an experience and a bit of an adventure - and what will be will be. It was such a positive experience though I can't help crossing my fingers for good news now!
  4. Huge congrats to your dd Lou78 and all others who've had good news so far! Exciting times! Lema - I sympathise with your nail biting! I'll be doing the same for weeks yet too! I'm trying not to talk about it with dd too much as don't want her getting anxious about it but not doing do well at distracting myself!
  5. I keep checking back for news too. My dd's audition was only a week ago so I know we have ages to wait yet but seeing others starting to get results is still making my heart leap! I need to stop looking I think, or it could be a long few weeks! Good luck all those waiting!
  6. Wow! That's lovely news Squeaky! Congratulations to your son and to you too!! You must be bursting with pride! Exciting times ahead for you! Were results quite quick for you in the end then?

  8. Thanks Tulip. I'm certainly trying to. It really is a completely alien world to me, which is good in some ways as I'm blissfully ignorant, but equally it all feels quite daunting and frightening and there are so many others who seem to know so much! You're right though - for now my dd is just a little girl who loves to dance and I'm loving watching her get so much enjoyment from it. That should be my focus for now!
  9. I am beginning to wonder what I'm getting ourselves into. This is a completely new world to me and it's all such mystery - and really rather scary!
  10. Couldn't agree more spannerandpony - very wise words! As for the ear placement thing - believe me I know how ridiculous it sounds and I couldn't believe it when it was mentioned to me by 2 separate and knowledgeable people. I didn't mean to provoke a debate. It does seem crazy but the whole thing seems fairly crazy to me! Good luck to all those waiting for news.
  11. And maybe that's it snape - having a 'look' doesn't mean they all have exactly the same body shape. I can spot my dd amongst her friends/ballet class - she's taller and whilst they're all generally slim, she's thinner. I wonder if too tall and too slim to make it in to JAs - let alone all the other elements. It's all a mystery though, so I'm going to try and stop speculating!!!
  12. Totally right that it's a 'package' and agree that it's good that we don't know what the actual magic ingredients are. There's no real way of knowing and it's probably best that way. I've heard from a couple of sources who know about these things that they look at ear placement though - who knows if it's right or not, but I promise I'm not just making it up!!
  13. I find it fascinating. I hadn't thought about it being that strong a look but sounds like it must be if it's hard to spot your own dd amongst other JAs! Mind you I was told that they're even looking at the placement of the ears on side of head, which I guess is pretty specific! Were all the girls similar heights as well as shape in your experience tulip and sarahw?
  14. I've definitely heard there is a type - willowy, short body, long legs, long neck and small head. My dd fits this description but I do wonder whether she's too tall. I don't really think that just having the right body shape can be enough on it's own either - especially if there are examples of classes having a mixture of shapes and sizes. Interestingly not many in dd's audition fitted that description either. I have been told they look at their turnout, arch of feet and their jump as well as general musicality. Dd certainly said she'd had to do 16 jumps straight in her audition - and that they'd got them to get their knees as close to the floor as possible in froggy legs. Ultimately only they know what they're looking for - I guess it's probably a magic combination of all of the above, hence why so few are successful - but also why we can all hold out some hope!!
  15. I heard they auditioned 75 a day in London over 3 days but it wasn't clear if this was across all year groups or just one. Nobody seems to have a definitive answer on how many places they offer or how the places are distributed across year groups etc. I'm assuming they don't have a set number and take the 'few' who fit their criteria - whatever they may be (another mystery). Can't help feeling that all the uncertainty adds to the appeal of it somehow though! They are RBS after all so they can pretty much call the shots!
  16. I'm pleased I'm not the only one to be feeling anxious about the wait! I know they see thousands of children but they offer so few places and must have such specific things they're looking for, I can't help thinking they must have a fairly good idea straight away!? Ah well, I guess it adds to the excitement of the whole experience!
  17. I'm playing the waiting game too!! Dd went to London audition last week and loved every minute of it. As some people may know from other threads, we were in two minds about whether to take her, but I'm SO glad we did. It was so well done, really friendly and such a positive experience - she came out grinning from ear to ear! Now the wait is on. Expectations are realistic here, but you can't help hoping - it's going to be a long few weeks!
  18. Letter arrived today!! Thanks for being on tenterhooks on our behalf Flora! Very sweet of you! Dd was very excited and her face just lit up when I handed her the envelope. She put her ballet shoes on straight away and went off to her room to 'practice'! She admitted to bring half excited and half nervous - think it all feels more real now it's in black and white! Audition isn't until 3pm which means will have a long time for the nerves to build up but will plan something nice to do beforehand to try and take our minds of it!!
  19. We are just looking forward to the experience for now - everything I have read on here has been so positive. As you say Legseleven - a yes would be a bonus but for now we are just thrilled that it was even suggested Dd should go! Yes, Jane, we got an acknowledgement email so we know that the application got there ok! Sounds like the letters are arriving today then Balletmum20 - maybe it will be there when we eventually get home this evening! Exciting times!
  20. Oooh thanks balletmum20. Maybe ours wil be waiting on the doormat when we get home then. Fingers crossed! Thanks Legseleven. I know everyone that applies gets an audition - and have told dd that. She is just anxious that her name has fallen off the list for some reason. I keep telling her it won't have happened but she's so excited about the whole thing and just wants to know she's definitely going and when. Fingers crossed it will all become clearer soon. Thanks
  21. Hello! Sorry to hijack again. Has anyone had a letter about the London auditions yet? We have yet to hear anything and they are the week after next. Dd is rushing home to check the post every day and is convinced she's not on the list. I'm hoping it will arrive in the next day or so - exatcly a fortnight before the audition day perhaps?
  22. Thanks. Good to know it's normal not to have heard. I'll just have to encourage dd to wait patiently to hear for a bit longer. I guess they have so many applications to look through that it must take an age to organise it all!
  23. Hello - sorry to hijack this thread but just wondering whether anyone has had a letter about the London JA auditions yet? They are due to be the last week of May but we have yet to hear when dd's is. I'm hoping it's just that they haven't sent the letters out yet, rather than it having got lost in the post. Dd is desperate to know when it is - she's so excited!
  24. When I say we're 'in' I mean in the process - obviously miles off actually being 'in' in real terms I know!! Thanks again for all the insights. I can't tell you how much they've helped!!
  25. Well, I posted dd's audition form today so guess we're definitely 'in'! She is really excited and caht wait for it to happen. I wondered the same thing about ticking more than one centre. I'm sure I've read on here that people are sometimes offered centres other than the one they tick, maybe because it's nearer or to balance numbers etc. interesting that they actually say about mentioning willingness to go to another centre at audition. I can't begin to imagine the logistics of sorting auditions and/or offers out. The mind boggles as to how they work all that out!!!
