  1. Woo hoo!! Congrats vmmom!!! Excited to hear of our first yes!!
  2. Thanks Pastel. We have to remind ourselves, Priority Wait List for Royal Ballet SS isn't half bad for a kid that had two hours a week dancing up till this year! For those still waiting, I am looking at it like this: they sent the NO letters first, so fingers crossed everyone waiting gets a wonderful YES!!!!!!
  3. Well, we got our expected NO just now. DD will be sad for this one, but it wasn't unexpected. Sigh. Onward and upward, all she can do is keep improving and keep trying.
  4. Good luck! Take a deep breath and dance like no one is watching!
  5. I love that you met some encouraging supporters! I find I can only talk to other mums of dancing children about DD's aspirations and am grateful to have found here so I can ask questions from parents who have been on this path before us and can share their wisdom. I wish I could stop researching how hard it is... I have a tendency to be too realistic, but need to be optimistic for my DD don't want to crush her dreams, just want to do like Zaccharoviti and keep her feet a little bit on the ground!
  6. Got that email too, so frustrating! Being realistic, my DD just doesn't have the level of skill they probably want at 12, so I am fully expecting a no, but my DD would love it so much that I keep a little bit of hope for her! Was looking forward to moving on tomorrow to figure out other summer schools! Though we still have the waiting list for White Lodge, we are keeping that week open but planning a non auditioned summer course, possibly Ballet West!
  7. Last year this time I barely knew much outside my daughter's small studio in Co. Clare Ireland, let alone even heard of the Prix de Lausanne! While looking for a summer experience for my daughter in Oregon where my parents live, I looked for RAD schools, but the teacher here said to try other styles, like American Ballet Theater etc, and I had no idea what that was or what she meant. That started me on a journey to learn a little more about the world my daughter seemed determined to enter and it has been a real learning experience!! It is exciting to be able to watch the Prix this year and see the son of a forum member! Well done to your DS CeliB what an amazing accomplishment to be there, he looks GREAT!
  8. We are in exact position as you are! Priority Waiting List and also waiting to hear about Paris Opera Ballet (but not expecting it in any way, though it would be a dream for my DD!) We can commiserate! We are researching other summer schools for different dates on the off chance we were lucky to be called off the PWL, but we don't expect it! Let us know about POB, we doubt our chances, but hope to hear about others here making it in!!
  9. DD did Shawbrook when she was 10 and loved it! Last year we did an intensive in Oregon near my parents house in the USA during our visit. We are looking to combine a holiday in UK (or France if a miracle occurred) and a summer school and were looking at all options! We are looking at Yorkshire as well but although she will do her RAD Grade 5 exam in June she only has done Grade 3 at moment (albeit a high distinction) and they ask for Grade 4 or above and she has skipped the Grade 4 level... We will send in a form and a video link and photos but will have to see if she gains a place. There are so many program's available it really is wonderful!
  10. I'd love to hear more about these successful at 16 students who only studied a few times a week! Gives me hope for my daughter! She wants the dream so badly but we will always have limited access to classes where we live!
  11. We aren't fixated on RBS at all, lol, looking at RCS here! For 16 yr entry will look at a lot of options to try, I doubt we would even try RBS for that age! We don't need non-residential, just that there was no audition for the RCS summer school! Is there a summer school for younger children at Ballet West? Off to check it out! Would love any other recommendations for summer schools?
  12. Since we have a waitlist spot for White Lodge and we really don't think a spot at the Paris Opera Ballet Summer School will pan out (though we still are crossing fingers that we may luck into it!) I am starting to look into other summer schools and some that might not need an audition because if I am realistic, my daughter has facility for ballet but not the hours that any other 12 year olds might have... RCS seems to fit this, and although non-residential, we think we could fit a family holiday into this and do day trips during her five days of classes, then a family trip later. I couldn't find anything about the summer school when searching. Have any of your DC done this summer school? RCS is on our list of schools she will probably try for when she is 16, if her passion and dedication remain as they are now...thought it might be nice to get an early feel for the school!!
  13. This Priority Waiting List and Selected Waiting List is all so confusing, it looks like the waiting list is huge, so we are assuming that we won't be lucky enough to gain a place (though several other summer schools we are looking at don't clash with the date if we did get some luck!! ), but is there really a difference in levels of waiting list. This wording confused me: "If I do not hear from you by this date, your offer will be automatically withdrawn and offered to a candidate on the waiting list." Aren't we already on the waiting list? Or are there really two tiers of wait list, which seems a bit confusing? We are delighted with Wait List as my daughter got a straight no the first time we tried, but just was curious about this
  14. Congratulations and well done to all the yeses! And for all of us with nos, it is just a no for now and what an amazing and brave thing our DCs did by even auditioning, I know I couldn't have done it at my daughters age!
  15. What a lovely thing to say ZooZoo! I would say with us it is the number of hours she has dancing, it was only two hours a week up till this September, if she is being compared to current year 7s dancing daily at White Lodge I am sure she is well behind that standard, but we are working on upping her hours and will see how the dream progresses. She still is as obsessed as ever and very pleased with her wait list spot, I like to think seeing her in person at audition helped that! We are happy we did it!
  16. Thanks but coming from having only a few classes a week we know she was behind for her age compared to others, she doesn't know yet as still in school but even wait list was more than we expected, so DH and I are actually pretty excited for her, even wait list is an achievement for RBS lol, at least in our eyes!
  17. Priority Waiting List for us for White Lodge, we got a straight no last year so I am proud of her for even achieving the wait list!
  18. We received our expected no for the finals, she was trying for y8 and only a few will go through I am sure. We did get Priority Waiting List for Summer School though! I am proud of her for achieving that even if no places come available!
  19. We are in Killaloe, in East Clare, so Galway is about two hours away, not feasible for weekday classes. Her teacher wants her to audition for the Irish National Youth Ballet this year, but I'd be interested to hear more about this teacher and company. Houston Ballet on scholarship is very impressive your daughter mist be very talented!
  20. Smiles, which audition was your daughter at, we were at the 11:30 one. My daughter said they were chatting like they were discussing the girls auditioning but she didn't notice laughing. She said she couldn't stop smiling during her audition and loved that they smiled at her too. We don't hold out much hope for any place but I am glad she felt it was a positive experience. I am sorry that your daughter felt offended, that definitely would dampen my daughters experience. I hope she gets some great news soon!
  21. I don't anything about those kind of detaills re bed numbers, but the man at the audition (I think he was Outreach Director, I didn't hear his name...) was the one who said possibly no place maybe one or two...but to keep trying and come back next year if unsuccessful... We are such newbies I don't know who the players are at RBS!
  22. The only way there will be a place for Year 8 is if some poor DD is assessed out. We were told possibly none maybe one definitely no more than two spots for year 8. It is a tough world this ballet world! It was still worth the experience though, my DD really enjoyed dancing and getting a RBS hoodie lol!!
  23. My daughter had a great time at the audition yesterday and came out smiling. There may not even be a year 8 place or at most one with over 50 amazingly talented girls trying for it so we expect nothing and maybe just hope they see she applied for summer school and might let her have a chance for that! That would be the best thing for us, we aren't expecting finals or anything, so just a little hope for summer school and even that we know is a long shot. But she said she smiled a lot through the whole audition and got smiles back so that made her happy and the whole process such a worthwhile thing! She saw there was a lot of talented people out there but wasn't daunted and will keep trying for her dream no matter what we hear back! It was so great to meet Zacharovitti and her stunningly beautiful ballerina daughter yesterday, my DD and her DD apparently smiled to each other during the audition for encouragement! Hope all our DCs enjoyed their experience and that many will hear some good news in the following weeks!
  24. Oh my we leave tomorrow for our audition! I only realised I had forgotten to get a waist elastic for My DD this week and panicked, her teacher doesn't use them! Luckily her teacher was up in Dublin and nipped into dance shop and got one for her... We know it is a long shot so we are just making a great day of it, audition in morning, shopping and London Eye afterwards! Good luck to everyone's DC auditioning this year!
