  2. Do Russian ballet school bristol do a summer school? Dd has expressed an interest in looking at Russian technique as a number of proffesional ballet dancers have said her "style" of dancing would be ideally suited to this form of training. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
  3. Charades dancewear 01902 621122 provide a fantastic service and the owner Lisa Neilson will offer a discount if you are placing a large order as well as an extra 10% if you mention balletco forum
  4. Hi ballet jack the tests are very vety basic! If your dd is good enough that they want her she wont lose her place because of the academics! Don't worry
  5. Same for us dr dance although dd didnt apply for white lodge summer school most of the other girls from her ja class did and i dont think any were offered a place! And two start at wl in sept! All vocational schools def look at potential
  6. Hi clara yes we are very proud of her she was offered an mds funded place so that was even better as well as being offered places at hammond and tring. My dd was a ja for two years and absolutley loved her time there. She has only been taking her ballet more seroiusly since she was about 8 she is now idta higher grade6 having got a mark of 94 in her previous ballet exam and was put forward for an idta scholarship in manchester in feb this year gaining a special commendation and doing her rad intermdiate grade having gained a distinction in her rad pre-elementary. However saying all that (i think you can tell we are very proud of her lol!) there was a boy in her ja class who was spotted at school and did no ballet classes and had taken no ballet exams before being accepted onto the associate programme! So what i guess i am trying to say they are def looking for potential and not previous exams the audition is a very basic class which i am sure your dd would have no problems with.
  7. Hi clara yes Janet (she is a fantastic teacher) is still involved with nyb and taught my daughter a lovely piece based on degas paintings last year . My dd was desparate to do it again this year but is due to start in year 7 at elmhurst in sept so we thought she needed a break
  8. Hi Clara, yes rbs will specify what photos and in what positions they want them taken i presume elmhurst would be the same. My dd has done NYB for the last two years and the standard of production and dancers is fantastic! They now do a two week rehearsal for show at tring at the end of august and then perform at em forster school tonbridge pretty much straight after rehearsals finish. The finale is normally at the start of sept and had been at the palladium and saddlers wells when my daughter had done it. Hope this helps good luck
  9. Hi Clara, welcome to the forum! Not sure about Elmhurst summer school but RBS at white lodge offers places purely based on photos they ask you to send in so no exams or previous experience is taken into account. My dd wad a rb ja and no preference seemed to be given to ja's
  10. We always use charades in wolverhampton for our Dd Lisa is fantastic they sell bloch freed grishko and gaynor minden shoes and again it is always best to book an appointment as they always seem very busu
  11. Thanks for the wonderful review julie! I loved the show especially the flamenco number but felt some of the older dancers featured too much and some not enough if you know what i mean! Were you sat on the front row at the saturday performance?
  12. The end of year show at Elmhurst today was absolutley fantastic! Congrats to all involved and to all forum members whose children took part you must be so very very proud!!!
  13. My DD is very excited Julie we recd a lovely letter from one of the girls already at elmhurst! I thought it was a really nice touch and Dd has already txt her. Cant wait to see the show. Will they find out who they are sharing with tommorrow? Thanks
  14. I wouldnt worry touch Elly our dd missed several classes both for illness and also for festivals and RB were fine about it. Good look to you DD she will love the classes they are fantastic!
  15. Hi Margot, we were in the fortunate position that my daughter was offered a place at Tring as well as elmhurst and hammond. My daughter loved Tring (she boarded there when doing NYB) but the one thing that ruled it out for us was Rachel Rist and her attitude to the children prior to audition. All the other schools were very welcoming (as was everyone else at tring) whereas miss rist came over as quite "scary" as my daughter said! It may just be her way but it certainly put us off!
  16. Yes it is better to get a more flexible shank unless feet are very strong something like a Grishko pro flex is ideal as a first shoe
  17. My daughter is 11 and studying grade 6 and intermediate for the last six months but other girls in her class are aged up to sixteen. All of the main four vocational schools certainly at audition for year 7 only ask auditionees to show basic steps so don't know wether what grade dancers are at will have any effect
  18. My wife totally agrees loulabella we have been making tutus for 12years and our tutus take between 28 and 35 hours depending on the detail. In our experience you get what you pay for!
  19. Hi Tracey47 my wife thinks she knows who you are! Lol she said if you want to pop in sat she will be delighted to make your dd tutu! Glad the pointe shoes are ok! Thanks for the recommendation!
  20.
