  1. That's true, Dave, but you can usually make out a slight movement as they go through!! Last night there was just blackness ..... and also times when the dancers disappeared into the dimness at the sides of the stage until re-emerging into the spotlight ....and it wasn't intentional!

It didn't matter for me, but I'm sure that others less familiar with the ballet might have missed quite a lot!

  2. Just a question - did anyone else find the cinema stream very dark? I was in Cambridge and even though I knew what to look for the whole stage was so dark that for example the monks entering the tomb were completely invisible, so no chance of seeing Romeo at all. It was the same all through - Tybalt’s entrance down the steps in Act 2 was almost impossible to see if you didn’t know where to look. Even some of the market scenes were hard to see.  I’d love a DVD but don’t know whether this would be a problem or whether it was just a transmission issue.

Sad to see no title role in Manon for Beatriz Stix-Brunell; lots of us were discussing on Saturday at her R&J matinee that we hoped she would be cast.

I agree - she was stunning as Juliet, and I was really hoping she'd get the chance to do Manon. Her performances are so thoughtful and nuanced - her Manon would have been something special!  I'd love to see her as Tatiana - wonder if she'll get the chance ....?

  4. It’s so interesting how we see things differently. I found the afternoon  with Stix-Brunel and Hirano on a totally different level. It’s been a while since any performance of R and J moved me to tears, but this afternoon had me in floods. Her performance was so nuanced that she was totally believable and her emotions were raw. For me she was a complete Juliet.

I agree about Ball’s Tybalt, which was outstanding, but otherwise this evening I was unmoved.

    Sorry!

  5. I was just about to return these tickets to the BO, then wondered if anyone here might be interested in them even though they're not ballet. It's Tosca on Monday May 27th at 7.30. Two Amphi tickets - not together but cheapish (for opera!). I'd like to think they're going to a good home!

    Amphi C80

    Amphi E34

Each ticket £44. Officially restricted view, but actually rather good.

I'd rather sell both tickets at the same time if possible.

Let me know. I'll return them to the BO on Monday if no-one is interested.

    Many thanks

    Jacky

  6. Hi - I have Amphi E34 for £21 if you're interested. It's on the side, officially restricted view but not very. It's an e-ticket.

You might prefer to wait to see if you can get a SCS - I saw one yesterday at the last minute on the ROH site for Beatriz last night, so they do come up.

    Let me know.

    Thanks

Having said that, one thing did look slightly incongruous. In this performance, Tybalt pushing his way through two male bystanders with his sword hand extended almost exactly coincided with Mercutio being pushed away by Romeo towards that same spot, so Mercutio being impaled on that sword looked almost accidental.

But it is an accident .... isn't that the point? (no pun intended!)
