  1. Yes we are going Saturday night. We have a reservation for tea at Savoy for 4:45 and then walk to theatre after so maybe a cocktail at the ROH before the show? Also planning a visit to the Abbey on following Tuesday. My dd is a student at NBS - I'm sure you both would have much ballet to discuss!
  2. DONE! Thank You all! 2 awesome seats for La Bayadere (albeit pricey) on the Grand Tier. This may very well be my only opportunity to see a ballet at ROH so it's money well spent.
  3. Thank you for that information I did find the site and signed up yesterday. Hoping for an e-mal !
  4. So here I sit... extremely jealous of your ability to purchase tickets now whilst I have to wait til April 9th! I am a foreigner and thus not a "friend" nor have any other priority but will be in London just in time for the last La Bayadere. Although my dd has seen every ballet our NBoC has performed in the last 5 years plus a few visiting companies, she has never seen La Bayadere and so is desparate to see it. Hoping there are some good seats left!!!
  5. Canadian trolling here.... My daughter started at a professional school at age 11 and was not in advance levels by any means. Other girls who auditioned could do tricks by the buckets and they were not accepted into her program. Her school does not look for what they have been taught but what they CAN be taught and they are looking for their potential to be a professional dancer. The ability to be trained and to acheive flawless technique is more important then 'levels'. I would assume this to be true for professional schools everywhere. Musicality, physique and passion. I think that's the ticket to going the distance.
  6. More from Canada... At my dd's school the 'use of touch' is standard and discussed as part of training. Not abusive touch but movement and correction. I also appreciate that foreign students are accepted to her school for many reasons...diversity, standards, striving for the best. Regarding funding? We have different sources for scholarships and bursaries. Tax money - in my opinion - should be used for residents. But her school has funding from other sources that allows room for foreign scholarships and thus the school has seen some amazing dancers graduate.
  7. From across the pond.... We are in Canada and my dd is in her 5th year (15yo) at Canada's National ballet School. Here we see the same thing. The higher the grade, the more international students accepted. I've always assumed it had more to do with the age of the student though. The older they are, the better they should handle the distance from home, therefore they don't seriously consider foreign students until the last 2-3 years of the program. Regarding RBS... yes it has a reputation that you should be envious of! My dd would pack her bags in an instant if it was an option. As would most of her classmates.
  8. You are so quick! Thank You! I do photography as a serious hobby so getting good shots won't be a problem... just didn't know which size to print. Today is picture day. While I'm here, should either by enpointe? or both on flat. Audrey
  9. Good Morning, For the YBSS application, it says "full length photographs in first Arabesque en L’air and first position en face". I haven't a clue what size this means! Anyone has ideas?
  10. This is great! Just the kind of info I was hoping for so thank you! Getting the feel of a place before going takes alot of stress out of it. DD will have questions and it's great to have somewhere to ask. She is a full time student at Canada's National Ballet School and most students at her level go on exchange programs during summer. Her teacher suggested ybss and it was an easy sell. She is a very independent kid but this will be her first solo trip.
  11. My post was removed from new topics? I have read this other thread thoroughly and my question is quite different so would have preferred it remained as was.
  12. Hello, I joined this forum in the hopes of getting some pre-information for YBSS. My daughter will be 16 this summer and attending YBSS (both weeks). The catch? We are from Toronto, Canada and have very little knowledge of this program. It looks fantastic! She will be travelling alone to Manchester but can only fly with a Friday arrival as there are no other direct flight, so my first question is: Where can I get her housed for that first night or do you think there is any chance of her checking in at the uni on the Friday? Also, I was hoping to turn this into a mini holiday for me too, after the program (Londons calling!). I am aware the last day is Friday but is there a performance at the end? If so which day is it typically held? Im sure we/she will have many more questions but my main concern now is making sure I can get flights and travel squared away at reasonable prices so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank You
