MAB
Very sorry to hear of the death of one of this country's greatest actors, Alan Howard. Always my favourite Shakespearian despite the fact he had a group of brilliant contemporaries, there was something very special about that voice. His performance as Jack Rover in Wild Oats remains one of the most sublime things I ever saw. A great shame his ill health meant he didn't live to perform those 'decrepit' roles that Ralph Richardson had such fun with in his eighties. I last saw Mr Howard in School for Scandal a couple of years ago, but hadn't realized he had lost a leg. RIP Mr Howard. This Guardian obituary has links to a Richard III rehearsal and a Coriolanus which I think is from the BBC Shakespeare series. http://www.theguardian.com/stage/2015/feb/20/alan-howard-shakespeare-mark-lawson#comment-47848057

Sim
What a voice he had. Almost up there with Richard Burton.
