Master Audition 2024 Croatia

Hi All,

Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of the Master Audition in Croatia?  My DD is looking at auditioning and I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about attendance, format, organisation.

I know there are varying opinions whether large open auditions which charge a fee are a constructive route to employment for the majority or just a cattle market/cash cow for companies.

Her vocational school as a rule does not provide any individual help to students, no private auditors, no contacting companies to recommend students.  I suppose it is possible they do this secretly for for the chosen 1 or 2 students in a year, but we wouldn't know as she is def not the favourite 😉  I appreciate every dancer is individual, no "journey" is the same so they must plan and manage their own career. But a little help to get into an audition would be useful...seeing as they still have to do the work when in the room!

As it is difficult to get auditions, maybe such a large scale event is worth visiting? Or is it just a quick route to empty pockets and heartache at the back of a packed dance hall?

Just an opinion and not based on experience or specific knowledge,
I would say this is worth going to.

Theres some good companies represented here such as Hungarian.
In the 2 company auditions my dd did before injury, the 2 contracts ( 1 in each) went to girls who were already in companies. My dd said they stood out a mile as being super confident and professional. Although she didn’t get a contract she learnt so much from being there.

I’m sorry your school is not more helpful. It’s so expensive and bewildering when you’re completely abandoned like this. Wishing you and you dd the very best of luck. x

€280 to enter before you have paid for flights, hotel, transport and food 😏

7 ADs, 2 from the U.K. who will hold their own separate auditions too.
Neither of my children attended events like this as I don’t believe them to be as selective as they make out ££££.

I would personally feel uncomfortable in my child taking a contract with a company in a country that they had never visited. I think you have to get a feel for a place. We flew to one company that looked fantastic on the website and Instagram account but was a hell hole and even if it was the only offer my child got they would say no.
on the other hand I hear Split is very nice 😊

Thanks both. You have both accurately expressed my 2 differing opinions on this!  I agree experience of such an audition would be extremely helpful but yes it does come at a really high price!

The difficulty with video pre selection is that dancers do not get the chance to experience live auditions that often, sadly I think they are missing out on the learning to audition element, joys of technology and modern life I suppose.

I'm still torn...some more thinking on my part required.

From what my daughter told me, the Eastern European open auditions are slightly less well attended than the others, say in Paris and Barcelona. I’m sure there will still be plenty though.

Does your daughter have plenty performance opportunities at the moment? Competitions?

My daughter had a minuscule chance to perform and competitions were a no. It was a bubble environment. If you are just training all your life it’s helpful to get any chance to adapt ‘ the classroom ‘ into professional performance on the other side and to be  challenged among your competitors at the highest level.
