Yaffa
Northern Rail has another flash ticket sale (£1 adults, 50p kids from 5-15, up to two kids under 5 with each paying adult) for selected (mostly off peak) advance journeys on its own network from 10th Jan to 1st March. Bookings can only be made on the Northern Rail site and the Northern Rail App (not on other sites or at stations) until 4 p.m. on Friday. You need to select 'Standard Advanced Ticket' (They're highlighted) and can only book single journeys (i.e. for a round trip, buy two singles). Tickets are non-refundable, but you can use the train swap function on the Seatfrog app to change to another ticket on the same day for £2.50. NB: You can't use railcards on these journeys but if you decide on a different ticket, you can get railcards for half price using Tesco Clubcard vouchers.) Also, until 23:59 pm. on 10th Jan, Great Western Railway has a sale (up to 50% off) on tickets from 10th Jan to 26th April on its own network As with the Northern sale, it's mostly for off peak tickets and the best tickets are going quickly but there are many tickets going into London on good ballet dates (e.g. Oxford to London Paddington) More about all of the above on the Money Saving Expert site: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/cheap-coach-train-ticket-deals/ Yaffa (with no connection to any of the above - just passing on the info) Edited January 4 by Yaffa 2

Yaffa
Transpennine Express (with trains between Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Glasgow and more) now also has a £1 flash sale. until 23:59pm on Friday, 19 January. Children aged 5-15 can travel for 50p. The sale covers select journeys from Monday, 22nd January and Friday 8th March on TransPennine Express services only, and exclude trains from 29th Jan to 6th Feb, because of industrial action. Once again, good info on how to obtain the discount on the Transpennine Express site and app are on the Money Saving Expert site: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/transpennine-express/#55362
Yaffa
Too late to edit my previous post but just saw on the Transpennine Express site that this offer only lets you make "1 purchase per account for a maximum of 4 return journeys or 8 one-way journeys." They have a number you can call to order tickets if you don't have access to digital channels. See the FAQ about the sale at: https://www.tpexpress.co.uk/sale. You can also see details of the Transpennine Express routes at: https://www.tpexpress.co.uk/travelling-with-us/routes. Roberta
For anyone who travels east coast line to London and back) this could be welcome or unwelcome news, it all depends. Initial reaction appears to be that it's simply a means to make more money for the rail company.
