Jacopo Tissi joins Dutch National ballet

Dance Europe have reported that Jacopo Tissi ex Bolshoi principal and at La Scala since 2022 is joining Dutch National Ballet.

Yes, I saw this. Quite surprised as he seemed settled back in Milan, albeit as a guest, and was obviously being feted in Italy.

I am assuming Jacopo will be given similar leeway to perform as a guest elsewhere as other principals at Dutch National already do … Smirnova, Makhateli, Caixeta, Tsygankova … and not only in their summer break.

I would imagine the position offers security - as in a regular salary, healthcare and pension etc whilst also allowing the opportunity to guest elsewhere.  If he’s only a guest in Milan I would assume he is hired on a freelance basis, which is a precarious position.

It seems a shame for Italian audiences that La Scala didn’t offer him a permanent contract.  But maybe he wouldn’t have taken it even if they had, … having already performed many principal roles there before his time at the Bolshoi, both under Vaziev.  He also previously had a short stint at Vienna State Ballet under Legris , who is the current AD at La Scala.   
 

Sometimes pastures new are a better choice.  And Dutch National do have different and varied repertoire.
