Nana Lily Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 We will be visiting New York this August, I have looked at the ABT and NYC Ballet websites and I am unable to find performances during August. Are there any visiting companies in New York City during August? Desperately hoping there are this will be our once in a lifetime visit and we would love to see a great ballet.
lull Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 August is a dead zone for ballet in New York. ABT and NYCB do not return to NY until October-ish. The major dance houses for visiting companies (not necessarily "great," often regional troupes) are the David Koch Theater, NY City Center, Joyce Theater, and Brooklyn Academy of Music. Those venues show no events for August. 1
lull Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 I'm sorry about the ballet but I hope you get to go to a Broadway show or something else fun.
Don Q Fan Posted April 23, 2017 Posted April 23, 2017 August is probably the quietest month the world over for ballet. There is a little bit of ballet in Phantom of the Opera if you see that on Broadway. Pity American in Paris isn't on there either but touring the USA (Chicago and Atlanta in August).

Not in Japan when we have World Ballet Festival in August every 3 years, and usually stars perform here for the summer vacation. This year we have Manuel Legris's Gala in the end of August where he dances with Isabelle Guerin, and Marianela Nunez, Vadim Muntagirov, Olga Smirnova and Semyon Chudin participates with dancers from Vienna State Ballet. Also we have a gala by Japan's Star Dancers Ballet, with guests Miyako Yoshida dancing a Bintley piece with Federico Bonneli, and from POB Hannah O'Neil with Hugo Marchand.
