Lisa O`Brien
I`ve just been looking at our local theatre`s What`s On page on their website,[The Market Place Theatre, Armagh]. I noticed they were advertising auditions for various age groups. At the bottom it said there was an audition fee of £100. I had no idea the parents of children had to pay a fee to audition and it took me by surprise. Is this normal practice? Thanks.
Picturesinthefirelight
It's not normal practice for the fee to be that high for just an audition. I'd expect about £20 It is normal practice to pay for a theatre's summer course/community theatre etc event which this is likely to be.
Picturesinthefirelight
It's not an audition fee. It's a participation fee for successful children.
invisiblecircus
It's not normal. Is this a professional or an amateur venture?
Picturesinthefirelight
It's a local theatre summer project by the look of it.
Picturesinthefirelight
ATG Theatre's charge between £200-£250 for their summer Stage Experience shows as a comparison.
Lisa O`Brien
It didn`t say who was putting on the production, unless it is an in house production of some sort. The theatre houses professional and amateur productions. I saw European Ballet in Cinderella there a few years ago.

taxi4ballet
ATG Theatres are basically just a big chain of theatres round the country
Picturesinthefirelight
Taxi is correct. ATG are Ambasdador Theatre Group, they own lots of theatre's & are mostly receiving houses but they often have Creative Learning Departments who run activities for young people.
