  2. Hi Amber21. Sounds like you have a bit more experience than us. My DD only started JAs this year and is, I believe a couple of grades behind everyone else. Which of course means she probably isn't at a good enough standard to actually get into WL anyway. But I agree the opportunities are fabulous, maybe we will see you at Covent Garden in Half Term?

Hi Fusster I don't think it matters about grades its about potential as a lot of even more experienced mums or dads will advise you on here. Amongst other things no one really knows!! Yes we are going to Covent Garden in half term, I will pm you!

I have only just read hfbrews reply above!! Totally agree lovely news re ds!! x

  3. Fusster- Hi there is a separate box on the form for mids however as mum in a spin stated your dd may still get invited to a final! Good luck my dd is doing the rounds also this year, it only seems a short time ago she started jas in year 4. Initially dd was happy going to extra ballet classes with royal . . . .now after 2 years she has been totally absorbed and is having a thoroughly lovely time with all the amazing opportunities she has experienced. Xx

  4. Hi I really enjoyed the showing yesterday, all of the dancers were beautiful, it was a real inspiration for my dd who is only 10 and was in group b. . . . DD was in total awe with the older children, it's lovely to see how they develop from being DD's age into the talent we were watching yesterday!

  6. Quick question for anyone who knows the EYB Swan Lake - are the 'Mariiinsky dancers' on pointe or not?

    Thanks!

Hi when we did swan lake at Newcastle they were on pointe. . . . I suppose it may depend of age and ability of dancers as spannerandpony also said

  8. Well my DD is all settled in - we had a relaxed drive up to York in time for a bite to eat before arriving a little after 2.00 pm to register. DD is sharing a room with another lovely forum

My DD want to go YBSS next year ( too young this year) but is worried that they sleep in single rooms. How old are your DDs? Is it normal then to get double room?

Hello Happymum our DD's are both 10 in year 5, the rooms are made up for 2, DD text last night and said there were a few rooms with a 3

  10. Sorry maybe silly question about uniform. (and a bit boring) just want to sort everything out so I can put it all away into a neat draw for September.

The belt, it is big enough to go around child twice. How short should I trim it? Do I put a press stud first, where the belt first meets and the hook and eye further on right at the end? Should I fold over and stich the ends to make it neater?

How long should the hair ribbons be? They are quite long. Do I tie them around the top of the pigtail before I then loop round the plaits and put a net over it?

    Thank you!

Hi Snape we were shown re plaits and ribbons to cut the length into 4 so we had 2 spare, then to cut a v at the end of each ribbon, they are then threaded through a hair grip and tied into a very neat bow, the grip is then able to be popped into the base of your plait on each side of the head.

Re waist band, round waist once and hook and eyes fastened at the back of belt.

    Good luck

  11. Hi balletmum20 I experienced something similar when my dd got into ja's and when she turned 9 the teacher invited her into the inter foundation class with older girls, the girls in that class were very supportive and lovely as was the parents however it was one of the parents from my dd's graded class who had become quite nasty making negative comments towards myself over a period of time, it is really hard to ignore especially when it is over a period of time and i finally did get to the point where I tried to speak with her about it, big mistake i was on the receiving end of quite an aggressive reaction. i now feel even more uncomfortable as this mother totally ignores me and my dd. i suppose it maybe more positive in that the comments have stopped but as sharry01 says its this persons problem, its just very sad and immature and unfortunate that the focus is on another child other than their own.

Good luck with this and try to rise above it.

  12. Unfortunately this kind of favouritism tends to run throughout various environments, even in main stream schools, it is unfair and especially when there maybe a teacher who is vulnerable to a few outspoken possibly pushy parents who know how to manipulate to gain more benefits for their child. My dd experienced this in one of her other kinds of dance class where the teacher has a friend whose dd got the main position or part a lot, my dd wasn't really aware of this until another child pointed it out. We had a talk about it and looked at what she was achieving herself and positives from being there and that everyone's part was important, unfortunately this happens in life and unless it was having a negative impact on dd, however she was still enjoying doing that particular class and being with her friends therefore made the decision to stay with this class as she says its fun being with friends and enjoys it.

I hope you are able to resolve it.

  13. Hi dtadmin

  14. We have just returned from the EYB Oxford casting day and DD has been given the part of a cygnet! She is a very happy (and tired) girl! X

Another cygnet here for the EYB at Oxford. Dd is a very happy bird.

Hi my dd was a cygnet in Newcastle and loved every minute, they had their own dressing room and they all bonded really well, it was a lovely experience and the other girls were just lovely too, I think even if she had been any other part she would have enjoyed just as much! There were tears on the last night as realisation set in it was all over! Bless!

We are sad they are not coming again this year! Good luck and if you get a chance to chaperone that is a fun experience too!

  16. Hi just a question. My dd is starting vocational school in sept.i haven't as yet booked any summer schools for her as I thought as it was her last long summer before starting school it would be nice to have her at home before she goes away. There is a couple of summer events she can do nearer home like a drama course with her siblings and possibly a contemporary course. I know she will miss ballet terribly over the summer and I am now wondering if I should have booked a course- I know I have probably left this too late. Are there any courses still available and / or are there any courses near to the north east of England ( always having to travel it would be nice if something was nearer home) . Any info appreciated

Hi there is the northern ballet in Leeds if you have a look on their website and also dance city in Newcastle run various dance days as does the sage academy.

  17. Hi would it be worth popping into your local high street sewing shop that alters clothes that maybe able to offer some advice? There are also traders on for example eBay who make bespoke leotards and dance costumes to order.

    Good luck

  18. Yes big surprise for us too. Did not realise we would have to miss so many Fridays off school/work. We are at 13.15 but will have to set off at least 2 hours before and hope for no traffic. I thought that was maybe just the Sunday time but there is no other time on the form, so must be both. Am I missing something?

I seem to remember someone saying they had to leave school early to get there, I wrongly assumed that they would start about 4. Hope the head teacher is in a good mood when I tell him ekkk.

Quite a late start, I think the other centres start earlier.

Hi while my dd has been a Ja even though our classes are on sats the school have been quite accepting of her taking time off for work shops and visits with the royal ballet, I am sure it is classed as vocational, same as ballet and music exams, my dd has 2 friends who are elite gymnasts and they leave school every week to attend class.
