So, onto the Ugly Sisters. Like them or not, and I'm on the vaguely negative side, Gary Avis and Luca Acri were magnificent this afternoon. I'm particularly impressed with Luca Acri's performance who gives his sister a real character that you can actually like.  Gary, of course, held the stage superbly and this is the first time I've really enjoyed watching the Sisters, though I still think they have far too much air time.

Another highlight today was the Napoleon / Wellington (now called Suitors) which I have always loathed. Today we had Philip Mosley and Lukas Braendsrod who were both superb comic actors.  By far the best in these 2 roles I have ever seen.  Poor Lukas had to lift Gary Avis into a very significant holding position and he succeeded magnificently.  Philip Mosley almost made me laugh out loud, as did Lukas.  Well done them in these 2 usually thankless roles.

I saw the matinee this afternoon having been looking forward to it all week. I’ve never seen a Cinderella and am still processing the experience! However, although the sisters didn’t make me howl with laughter throughout, there were some very amusing moments and I thought Luca Acri was absolutely terrific today and had a lovely partnership with Gary Avis. Napoleon and Wellington were really good fun too.

As I said, I still processing the rest but my mood may well have been affected by the issues travelling to London with engineering works on my line.

Seeing a 30 minute interval followed by an only 25 minute Act III makes my heart sink a bit. It's a lot of hanging around when you're attending alone - especially as I'll be doing so 6 times over!

    I totally agree @Dawnstar

On a positive note, I’m super excited about seeing the matinee on Saturday as well as the other casts I’ve booked for. Might be tough missing out seeing the dancers I haven’t booked for but if there are tickets still available……🤔

  3. Had a few issues with the Thameslink signalling problems yesterday morning on my way in and then I discovered that the ROH didn’t have any banana bread which is my go to reward for walking from the station. 🙁However, after some carrot cake the day further improved when Fumi Kaneko and William Bracewell took to the stage. It was a wonderful performance, they complement each other so well and are getting better and better. I haven’t bought tickets for their Cinderella but may need to reconsider…

  4. My survey arrived this evening and I stated how important matinees are to me to be able to travel home from London. I know there are many others on this forum in a similar situation and it’s not always convenient to stay overnight. Agree that the section with the pricing options was a bit odd.

  5. I kept getting an error message when trying to submit payment details and phoned the box office as instructed. They were very helpful and asked me to send a screenshot which I have now done.

However I have subsequently received 4 emails confirming my subscription even though I had made 4 unsuccessful attempts earlier so its back to the box office for help! 🤔🤣

Very happy to have 3 months free. 😃

  6. I haven’t experienced your problems, Emmarose, but have had a different experience. I’m a recent subscriber and paid to view the RB Swan Lake and Don Quixote, however the stream of the latter was act 2 only and I’ve not been able to establish how long the rental is for as it seems I would need to pay again for further viewings. Annoyingly, Marquee TV haven’t replied to my email queries.

  7. My companion and I had fun spotting the various ballet and showbiz ‘celebs’ yesterday although we missed Marianela Nunez. 🙄 We both enjoyed the ballet and I thought this cast was terrific. Like others on the forum, I think that Cesar has had a great season and I’m really looking forward to seeing him dance other roles. Enjoyed Yasmin, Meghan Grace, Fumi, Christina, William and Luca as well but thought that Claire’s dramatic portrayal was magnificent. Both Kevin O’Hare and Christopher Wheeldon were sitting near me and I hope they were as impressed as I was! I now have to make a decision whether to travel to London to see it again but I’m not sure I will…

  8. This I such an interesting thread! I remember Cafe des Amis very well from the early 80’s and, as I lived in London at the time, visited regularly when meeting friends. As I had less money at that time and wanted to see as many ballets as I could, I bought amphi lower slips tickets and remember the original entrance and stage door. On special occasions and galas I would try to buy a ticket in the main house and enter through the main doors which was a fabulous treat and I felt like royalty! 😃

After a very long absence from the ROH it has been a joy to return this season and my heart leaps every time I enter that beautiful building. My husband doesn’t like ballet but can be tempted to enjoy a glass of champagne either on the terrace or in the hall as he appreciates the building too.

  9. The love and support for Claire and Nicol from both audience and dancers was wonderful. I loved the vulnerability of Claire’s Odette and the strength of her Odile, very moving. Nicol was a very sensitive prince and the act 2 pas de deux brought tears to my eyes.

I am so disappointed they will not have another chance to reprise the roles this run, it seems very unfair and they deserve more principal opportunities.

The rest of the cast were great and I thought Joseph Sissens was a lovely Benno, what a graceful dancer he is.

Beautiful photos from Rob S, loved the moments when Claire gave Nicol the flower and the extra bouquets were brought out!
