  1. Gaynor were ok but don't make your feet work.

Dd teachers didn't like them for the older girls when she was part time, they liked Bloch.

Wearing GM in auditions is fine like my dd would use Freeds. They are looking at your technic not what shoes your wearing. Wear what your comfortable and looks nice in auditions. But for training and long lasting Bloch Serenades for dd.

  2. My dd loves Freeds, always has and uses them for special occasions as she was going through them quick but hadn't tried the hardner (sellac, might have spelt it wrong) she went to Bloch and tried Bloch Serenades, perfect, hard wearing and last. She is on them everyday, and uses for rehearsals and touring as well. She just rings up and they deliver no fitting required. Super fit.

  3. I know this is a really late post, but I just wanted to let you all know, as promised, I have chosen to go to ENB.

Thank you for all your support :)

A part time student from Ballet West in Scotland started in September, my dd spoke to her the other week and says she loves it there!! WELL DONE!

  4. He absolutely loves it. sends text just with ballet class was sooooooooo amazing. When i call in the evening it sounds like  they are having a riot.

I second that! The laughter coming from their dorm is so loud. My ds is in hysterics all the way through our conversation, or lack of conversation.

  5. I was going to say Young Dancers Acadamy. My ds did year 7 there (he was year 6 really) and got into year 7 at White Lodge.

My ds loves it at WL and today he said he was 'home at his other home'. He doesn't come home at weekends and I have to call him to remind him he has a mum and dad :(

I still wonder if he hadn't gone to RBS workshop 3 1/2 years ago because his sister did and was asked by RBS to audition what he would be doing today. He did a ballet class a week but only because he loved JA's and was required too. He was doing 3 nights of Street Dance though and got through to Paris finals! In the end he had to choose between Street Dance and Ballet. Ballet won by miles because of JA's and 2 performances a year for 3 years at the ROH. Loved it!

  6. The swearing in the wings was the first thing my son noticed (much to his amusement) when he was performing with JAs at the opera house!

Mine said the same. We were Sat with Clare Culvert and her husband Ryoichi Hirano at a dinner. ds was chatting away with Ryo when Ryo got up and said I will be back in a minute. Clare saw ds was looking out for him when she said 'he's gone for a cigarette, he'll be back in a minute' she saw the ds look at me and she said 'he gambles too!'

  7. I was watching my ds in the first run/rehearsal of Alice Adventures in Wonderland at the ROH when Lauren Cuthbertson came on and Christopher Wheeldon was telling her what he wanted and all of a sudden one of the screens came down and hit her on her head. We all heard the thud! Lauren turned around and said 'Sorry that was my fault, I shouldn't have been stood there!'

After restoration of the house following disrepair in the late 18th century, George III gave the house to another Prime Minister, Henry Addington, 1st Viscount Sidmouth, who enclosed the lodge's first private gardens in 1805. Although the King (affectionately calledFarmer George for his enthusiasm for farming and gardening) made himself ranger, Lord Sidmouth was made deputy ranger. Among the more famous visitors to White Lodge during this period was Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, in the month before the Battle of Trafalgar. He is said to have explained his battle plan to Lord Sidmouth by drawing lines on the table with a wine-moistened finger.[3]

  9. My ds nearly gave up ballet because of teasing but then he got into JA's at 8, performed at the Royal Opera House twice a year with the Royal Ballet and at the London coliseum with The Milhailsky Ballet (with the beautiful Natalia Osipova). when the boys in question saw him in Alice Adventures in Wonderland on tv at Christmas they wanted to be friends! now he is at WL at 11.

  10. I am a Ballet Widow. I do miss them both.

Drop dd off at Ballet West Scotland last week and ds at WL saturday. So quiet here Saturday night that I decided to have a topple of Oban whisky I purchased last week in Scotland. I know why I don't drink now. I wanted some cheese at night and decided to go to Tesco and came back with 2 curries, garlic, crumpets, coffee, 3 packs of bacon and cheese. Moral of this story, don't drown your sorrows with whisky!!
