My daughter is a y6 cat after doing JAs and being invited to move to cat. She's loved her time there, though is going to vocational school this year. Miss Cara is especially fabulous but they're all great. It's been a shame they've missed so much this year though... Like everything else!

@PutYourBooteesOn Hello! Are you able to tell us a bit more about the associates? How many are usually in a class and are they all put together for 9-11 year olds or in seperate year groups? I have a 9 year old DD who has applied but don’t know anyone who has done the associates to ask.

  2.  Hi. I have just submitted our application for our DD. It is our first time applying for Northern Associates. Does anyone know what they look for or is that the million dollar question? 😂 The exercises looked quite difficult for her age/level but she has had a good try. Good luck everyone

Does anybody know if films need to be of the whole thing or just the exercises. Do they want to see the children listening? I assume from previous posts they just skip to the bits they want to see anyway.

We pressed record at the start of each part and left it rolling until the end.

Just a little tip for anyone new to video auditions as I dont remember seeing it in the instructions this time. If you use YouTube, make sure your video is set to ‘unlisted’ otherwise it is viewable to anyone who searches for the key words that your video is titled e.g. Junior Associate. If you choose ‘unlisted’ only people who you give the link to can view.
if I am wrong then please correct me as I am not very technical. You can change it in the settings.

That’s if you dont want people to see it........

We submitted ours too. I hate the waiting. Once the deadline is up, I will be checking for views every day 😂

I’m not clear on how it will work this year - last year they based the whole decision on the videos I believe but this year it says the ‘preliminary audition’ is by video and I’m sure I read somewhere that depending on restrictions etc that might be it or they might see some candidates in person.  I can’t now see where I read that though.

In the past (pre-COVID) the results came out by centre in the order that they had held their auditions (and it was a long wait if you’d been in the first few auditions!)

Yes I remember this now also. Which means it might be a lot longer process!

As a result of the roadmap out of lockdown, there was an email to say JA classes will hopefully return to live studio classes at the end of April.  WL final students are also going to be auditioned in person, so its a probable theory that they will assess preliminary videos and take a selection through to live auditions.  The thought of 'JA finals' sounds a bit harsh and extreme maybe?  But equally, they might identify great students immediately at video stage.  Who knows, but maybe they have more options this time round, as hopefully we appear to be heading towards a return to studios.

Fingers crossed. Has your son enjoyed his JA classes so far?

  8. Does anyone dare hazard a guess at when we might get the results this year? Are there three year groups to be looked at as last year, Year 6 was do e first.

I wonder if we will hear by centre or age groups or both? I am going to try and not be as obsessed this time around but easier said than done 😂

This year they are doing a virtual intensive and possibly in-person too but the virtual work for us - 2 weeks on zoom. Times are a bit tricky as it will be 6-10pm due to the time difference but I think it will be really fun! My daughter auditioned on zoom a few weeks ago. https://www.abt.org/training/dancer-training/summer-programs/summer-intensives/

Sounds brilliant! What a great opportunity. Whilst Covid has been rubbish in so many ways, there have also been some great opportunities too.

After discussing with my daughter’s teacher, we’ve decided not to apply again this year (for year 5) and to wait for 2022 applications, when she’ll be applying for year 6 and it should be in person. She started at London Junior Ballet associates last September and is having a brilliant time there and is very settled. I do think she’s improved a lot, particularly when I look at the photos from over a year ago, but we’ve decided to give it another year. She has lots of fun things to do this year including EYB Swan Lake and the American Ballet Theatre summer intensive. :)  Best of luck to you all though, I will be keeping an eye on the thread and cheering you all on!

Wow that sounds amazing. I didn’t know ABT did a summer intensive. Might be a silly question but is that in America or do they hold a course in the UK too?

My dd was a flat no year 4, no for another associate scheme in year 5...then got into year 6 off swl...and just got into rbs finals. I am so pleased she had those first rejections as it made her more resilient and determined to work hard...definitely don't let the 'no' put you off applying.. I think they like to see improvement x

    This is very encouraging.

    Congratulations to you DD.

I do feel my DD has improved in 6 months but we’ll see. 🤞🏻

These threads are full of people's experiences who got SWL one year, then a 'no' the next. And a 'no' one year, followed by a 'yes' the next, and every eventuality in between.  Where there is courage to apply or reapply, there must definitely be a chance in there somewhere, as you say :)  Although the JEP is new, and its clearly a good thing for those who got offered that,  I am sure people will see a very mixed set of results, like always if children are assessed on the audition alone.

Do you know if the JEP children need to re- audition like everyone else?

We are in exactly the same position. My DD also got that response. I’m not sure whether they put that to all.

Possibly but it gives us a glimmer of hope and encourages us to re-audition! Usually children who audition are put forward by their teachers from their dance school as they know what they are looking for so we have to believe that there is a chance in there somewhere.

I’m struggling with this at the moment. My DD did the insight day today and she loved it. It was fantastic and matched a lot of what they were looking for in the videos last year but with a different context e.g. improv. However we feel scarred from last year. We went for another associate centre to the one we’re thinking about this year and we found out after the audition that many many children were going for 5 places! We’re looking at different centre this year as we’ve moved but I feel beaten by the system.

Hi. I completely get where you are coming from following last year. I really hoped it would be an in class audition this year but I guess that’s out of their hands as is the number of places available.  We didn’t get a flat no (I am not sure if there were emails as a flat no). But they said that my DD worked well in the class and would be interested in seeing her again this year after another year with her teacher (it’s only been 6 months). However, we didn’t even get SWL so I am concerned that the places which are available, are going yo be earmarked for those on the JEP?

    Hello,

    First timers here 👋

I am a little confused. Could someone advise me? It mentions filming the videos from beginning to end as if the children are doing a class. It also mentions that videos should be no more than 20 minutes. The 3 videos together are longer than 20 mins so which part do I edit out? Do I just cut out the parts where they teach the exercises?

Also the W position. Does anyone know what this is supposed to show? I have never seen it before and am intrigued.

    I believe it shows turnout
