  1. Hi. My DD has also been attending BB in Hull in the Juniors. She is Y4 and auditioned last year in lockdown via video. We have been so impressed despite the majority of it being via zoom at no fault of their own and they have tried to make the zoom more fun by bringing in guest teachers who have taught choreography from different shows they’ve been in. Her teacher Miss Victoria is fantastic and i think the girls are in awe of her as she still dances professionally. We would highly recommend also.

Those of you with JA views which centres did you apply for?

I think there is only me who has posted and we are Leeds Year 5. I do know of another view for Leeds Y5, but also another friend who is the same and no view yet.
    Where are you applying for?

Its a relief to know its happening……

We’ve had a view last night between 2300 and 0000 according to analytics. I am hoping i am wrong. We have applied for a Leeds Year 5 place. Only 40% of 3rd video viewed too. Now i am going to drive myself crazy with what that means 😂

If i am correct and it was viewed so late, it just shows what a mammoth task it is for them trailing through our videos

Last year my daughters videos were only viewed for a very short time which I worried meant they had disregarded her straight away. Then a week or so before they sent out results the videos were viewed again a few more times and she ended Getting the short waiting list and JEP, so def don’t read into the analytics too much.

Thank you. I am hoping that to be the case

  5. Following on from the recent email, has anyone had a view yet? I am desperate to know if they will do it by locations or by year groups or both! Last year for Y4 & 5, we were told of the order in locations so at least we had some idea. I am hopeful there’s going to be views this or next week 😊

  6. I attended Laetitia’s class this morning and even though I was unable to attend last week, I was able to “catch up” with the rep this week. I absolutely loved it. We did Odettes entrance and mime which was adapted slightly to fit. Can’t wait for next week 🥰

Northern Ballet is a company based in Leeds. It has an attached Academy which runs the UK's only CAT training programme in ballet and an Associates scheme. Training stops usually at 16/17 though there is a post-graduate course too. Training is in ballet and (after age 12) contemporary. Company and students share the same studios.

Northern Ballet School (rebranded NBS) is an upper school which starts its training at 16. Its name is largely historical I would say - it does have a classical ballet strand but also a (bigger I think) theatre dance strand.

    Hope that helps!

    Yes it does! Thank you

Northern Ballet School in Manchester Has nothing at all  organisationally to  do with Northern Ballet (the Company) or  the Academy of the Northern Ballet  in Leeds,  that said  obviously there is some  cross pollination of teachers and  the like  as there are a  good number of  very good teachers who work  freelance   across  that M62 Corridor...

there is some  confusing because   Lavernen Meyer era  Northern Dance Theatre / Northern Ballet Theatre  ( i.e. the Company now based in Leeds) was based in Manchester...   at the time  the likes of Terence Etheridge was dancing with the company...

NBS is  an interesting organisation  with the different emphasis /. streaming  available  within their course

I do , personally, wonder  however, if the  Existence of NBS is one of the  reasons  ( along with the historical links  of NBT/NB  as a company  with Central  School of ballet via Chistopher Gable  and continued through a good number of Gable and Nixon era dancers   ( including Kenny Tindall )   is one of the reasons that AoNB  doesn;t  have  an 'upper school'  of it;s own despite having  a 'lower school' in  AoNB CAT   and the PGP   as well as  the Associates and the talent spotting

Thank you for this. I did have a feeling they were two separate entities but wasn’t sure.

  9. I think once they have emailed the results for the higher associate programmes, then they’ll start looking at Juniors. A friend told me they normally hold in studio Junior auditions in May and results come out in June but that’s not having to go through 100’s of videos. I am expecting to hear by June and anything before is a bonus. It doesn’t stop me checking for views every day though 😂

Anybody gained anymore insight into in person auditions?

I emailed but still nothing confirmed. They said they put a caveat on the website until they knew what would be happening with COVID but basically said that it would be applicable to Juniors and that if they felt that if they wanted to see anyone in person and restrictions allowed, then they would and any details would be sent out nearer the time. But unfortunately no more elaborate than that for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

How many sessions do you think there are? We are at 4.45pm and assume we’re the last. I’m thinking it could be 6, something like below...?

    9.30-10.30

    10.45-11.45

    12.00 - 1pm

    break

    2.15-3.15pm

    3.30-4.30pm

    4.45-5.45pm

    finish

so between 60-90 kids class size dependant. What do you reckon?

    We are 9.30

Hi everyone, first timer to auditioning for y4 place this time. I only chose Manchester as we live in North Wales. Wondering if I should have picked other options like Leeds etc too now.

Also looking to audition for Elmhurst but there doesn't seem to be a date yet. When do they usually open their applications?

Hi. We didn’t put a second option last year as wasn’t willing to travel 2 hours away (our closest is Leeds and 1 hour away) but this year I have put Newcastle as a second choice which is 2 hours away 😬 You might be able to add it on as last year they advised you could change your centres which suggested to me as a newby that you could previous years. Worth a try?

Oh yes of course. I think this last year has turned me into a massive pessimist where all this is concerned.
    I won’t believe it until it’s happened 🤣

True but I guess they have to make decisions as the guidelines stand at that moment in time so I am staying to be positive. Wishful thinking

  14. If we are on track with the roadmap out then there will be no more restrictions on social contact from 21st June which would suggest all would be back to life as we knew it by then 🤞🏻 So hopefully full size classes by then also.
Has anyone had a view yet? I am doubtful they are going to get through all the videos and let us know in April as suggested in an earlier post. Last year the Y6 were separate and it took them a month to go though the Y4&5 by each Centre.
