Hi has anyone been offered a waiting list and if so does anyone know what the chances are of getting a place?

DC knows at least one offer holder who will not be taking up the offer and one who is still undecided so places will come up.

I am sure the year my DD did it there were around 75 in main company.  There were six dances and the girls were cast in two and boys in at least three.  I don’t have a feel for how many did first round but I thought it was more than the 200 this year.  The finals were in groups based on who the choreographers wished to see.  They were there for a few hours before there was a split and a final group asked to stay on.  The final choice was made from this last group so staying to the end didn’t guarantee a place.  They are good at getting the results out quickly which is good.

Thank you - this is a more rigorous process than I thought.

In both 2018 and 2019 it was a total cast of 105 with 30 in the juniors.

So here is a 50% chance of getting in - pretty good odds I'd say compared to most things dance related.  Keeping the fingers crossed for results.

  3. I wasn't sure where to comment as it relates to this thread but also to the one where there were comments on whether or not those who hadn't done last summer's NYB offering or those not at vocational school would get places - linked below.  I understood that all those who did the course last year automatically get through to finals.  Does anyone know how many this was likely to be and how many actual places there will be at finals and are in the company?  I recall around 20 Juniors from watching previous shows but it was harder to work out Seniors as I am sure they are in more than one dance. With regards those who go to vocational schools I have heard that they don't always get in.  Looking at Instagram posts it looks like there were 200 or so at auditions.  Results on Thursday so fingers crossed for those waiting on the e-mail!

Ooo. Thank you. I might try that additional ingredient. How much oatmeal do you add?  😋

Not much or it gets too thick as I learnt to my cost 😂 maybe a tablespoon to start

That’s shocking the prices charged for individual bars.

Many homemade smoothies are relatively inexpensive and easy to make. Once anyone gets the hang of them they can create their own using fresh or frozen fruit/veg mix.
I’ve just made one of peanut butter, with a banana, soya milk and alpro yoghurt no additives/preservatives whilst being very filling.

This is one of our favourite combinations along with some oatmeal.

@Blue Box BalletI'm fully supportive of forward-thinking teaching, and training of children and I'm happy that it's getting that message out there, believe me! But I am purely thinking of the 'average' dance school where children do one class a week, maybe two (if you're lucky and have dedicated parents and students). Logistically it's tricky. I don't think that it's appropriate for most children under 10-11 to do a class that is an hour long, especially after a long day at school.

Furthermore - it may well be that RBS are "following the research in child development, dangers of early specialisation" but this doesn't seem to fully align with what happens at the actual school, especially upper school, where students are taken in aged 15 or younger who have clearly specialised at a young age.

I'm still in two minds about the programme, to be honest. I'd be interested to hear what other teachers are thinking!

My understanding of their giving a three year commitment from Year 7 and starting to offer a broader dance education is to train dancers to be more versatile and give a greater chance of longevity in the profession.  Just my thoughts based on a number of things I have read and a few conversations.  Hopefully this will go throughout the school.

Banana on whole grain toast with a drizzle of honey.... if she has time and if she likes bananas, which many people don't.

This is definitely the best option- as you say assuming you like bananas - 20 to 30 minutes before class is best.

And us! We have received an invite to the DADA funding audition for a boarding place. However, it says we are on a waiting list for a boarding place as there is no boarding available at the moment. Also is a DADA a set amount or means tested? Thanks.

The DaDA is means tested and unfortunately not nearly as generous as the MDS.  The difference in terms of overall funding is that is that while the MDS is based on numbers the DaDA places will vary depending on how much funding each applicant is entitled to.  The published scales are, I have been told, pretty accurate.

  9. I get the impression no one year has been the same judging by our experience and that of DD's friend.  It may depend on the dates of the auditions but her friend received a scholarship one year and they definitely heard the good news before we had even applied so must have been a few weeks after the auditions but before the course application deadline.  Another year they had a no early on with a letter to apply if they want to apply for the course.  One year we applied it was a no to scholarship and no to a place in the same e-mail after the April deadline.  I think now you have to apply for the course separately and not sure it was always that way.  Hope I am not causing confusion during the anxious wait for e-mails.  😅

Tring - how many spaces on the dance course (not talking about funding spaces) as they seem to have so many courses running now compared to when auditioning in yr6 i'm thinking of boarding places too.

Has anyone got any more information on the number of places available in 6th Form?  Do all those offered places get a funding offer?  Do all get offered boarding?

  11. The school changed their uniform a few years back so maybe thought they should update Associates now.  The sweatshirt and joggers are quite outdated now, although optional anyway. The leotard fabric is not as nice to wear as the majority of current leotards. It does seem about time for a refresh.  It’s only the JA and MA leotards that are Royal branded as SAs and ASAs can wear any style agreed but their teacher.

We thought results would be out after the second auditions but they came out today.  Places have been offered already.  Hope you had good news?

Is this an actual place or finals?  We have only heard of “no” results for three of DDs friends two girls and one boy.

  13. Too late to edit my previous post but what about Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker.  I was thinking the run had finished but it’s still on until the 30th.  Would highly recommend it - great for families.

  14. I can’t answer the YDA question or suggest another Nutcracker but take a look at London Children’s Ballet.  They are doing a new production this year with Anne of Green Gables.  Rehearsals have just started so it’s not on until the end of May.

Looks like 2 of the 3 are privately trained and not in full time vocational school here, and the other based in the US. Some candidates from Elmhurst and ENBS, although not British. Always love watching the candidates from APG. I just did a quick scan but can’t seem to find anyone from Conservatorio Annarella this time around. Two of their recent graduates did brilliantly well and went straight to soloist rank at Bayerisches Staatsballett.

Off the two privately trained one is ex WL and a Fonteyn finalist the other is privately trained by a number of coaches.

  16. Thank you @glowlight I read this but it didn’t think any applied to DC.

@Dance*is*life this sounds like it might be what happened - I recall DC saying something about the side they did things on  - I will ask them.

They didn’t get anything on the previous exam and that was in the midst of COVID as well.  It doesn’t change the award so it was of no real importance.  I have had the marks card for a while now and only saw this when putting it away.

Thank you both for commenting. 😊

I echo your thoughts whiteduvet. In his address to parents at today’s open day , the Tring principal spoke about the diverse  successes of the graduates - mentioning in particular those who had changed path to study medicine , for example .

    All equally celebrated.

Not to take away from the positivity but could this be in part due to the more general performing arts training of the school.  I could see that those on the acting and commercial music courses were likely to go to university to take an arts related degree.  The dance graduates do seem to predominately go on to a dance contract or dance/arts related career.  It does show how important it is to have a broad dance training.  There is also the opportunity for those who are on the dance course to move to other courses either for a term or a change of course.  This is a good transition to an academic graduate course or continue on a non-dance vocational route.

This is a divergence from the topic but hopefully shows that there are vocational schools who are supporting pupils whose skills/career aspirations change as they grow from children through teenage years to adulthood.
